Job Description
We are seeking a technically visionary and delivery-focused Head of Platform Engineering to lead our platform engineering domains in Hyderabad. This role is critical in enabling internal product engineering teams across ECS to build high-quality, scalable, and future-ready digital products. The successful candidate will combine deep technical expertise with leadership and a service-oriented mindset, ensuring our platform capabilities are adopted, loved, and continuously improved.
The ideal candidate will possess a deep technical background, leadership and communication, as well as a proven track record of delivering high-quality software products. As the Head of Platform Engineering, leading multidisciplinary engineering teams, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of software development, from conception to deployment, ensuring alignment with ECS business goals and objectives, working collaboratively across all functions within ECS.
Key Responsibilities
Delivery & Operational Execution
- You will be #LI-hybrid based in Hyderabad and reporting to Director Engineering
- Successful delivery of platform capabilities across your allocated domains at pace to agreed targets, ensuring we are delighting our internal engineering teams through the achievements of key metrics such as adoption rate and developer sentiment (eNPS).
- Create an environment of team ownership and accountability for the software built within your domains, ensuring quality throughout and full adherence to all compliance, security and regulatory requirements
- Optimise and innovate on development processes to improve efficiency, quality, and speed of delivery.
- Lead by example for the reliability and performance of our platforms in production.
- Bring your own ideas to both the Technical and Product roadmaps
Leadership & Management
- Foster a inclusive engineering culture through leadership, mentoring, and proactive talent development across all your teams
- Create performing product engineering delivery teams through effective and performance management, setting standards and expectations of success for your teams
- Drive positive engagement within your domains through communication, feedback, reward and recognition
- Lead and support your domains through change; being a positive advocate for ECS Technology and ECS more broadly
- Set the team up for success through the creation of effective and flexible structures, hiring the talent, optimal ways of working, fostering close alignment and working relationships with everyone within your domains
- Work closely with the UK teams and hybrid-location teams, including Technical Operations, Data Engineering, Analytics and more, to solve common problems in an aligned way, ensuring we share our best practice and break down boundaries across locations.
Engineering Excellence
- Stay ahead of emerging technologies and guide ECS towards future-ready architecture.
- Contribute to the ECS Technology team around Engineering Excellence and what that means within your domain.
- Champion modern software development practices including Agile, DevOps, and Continuous Delivery. Awareness of Team Topologies.
- Create a culture within your domain where you challenge yourselves to continuously improve, striving to deliver better experiences for your customers.
- Identify and implement best practices, tools, and technologies to enhance the software development lifecycle.
- Awareness and understanding of budget and cost responsibilities.
- Champion cutting-edge AI-driven development practices to enhance engineering productivity, code quality, and automation across the SDLC.
- Drive the creation of reusable LLM-based capabilities that enable, next-generation product experiences for consumers.
Strategic Planning
- Identify opportunities for reuse and consolidation across ECS and broader Experian.
- Partner with strategic vendors (e.g., AWS) to align platform capabilities with long-term business goals.
- Contribute to and drive the delivery of the product strategy within your domains through creative and innovative thinking.
Stakeholder & Relationship Management
- Collaborate closely with Heads of Product Engineering, Head of Product for Platform, and senior technical ICs to shape and execute exciting technical roadmaps.
- Develop effective working relationships across the ECS business e.g. Marketing, Customer Service, Risk & Compliance, Finance, SLT.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in software product engineering and delivery environments.
- Strong hands-on technical leadership role at Head of Engineering level.
- Demonstrable track record in delivering high quality software products, ideally in a Direct-to-Consumer setting.
- Proven experience managing and scaling engineering teams.
- Strong technical background with hands-on experience in software development and architecture across a range of technical tools and modern development frameworks. Experience and understanding of cloud and data environments.
- Deliver complex software projects on time and within budget.
- Proficient in Agile methodologies. Knowledge of Team Topologies model and Shape Up is a bonus.
- Demonstrable ability to work with teams from different cultures and backgrounds, and across different geographic regions.
- Commercially minded ideally with some experience in technology financial budget management and working with vendor resourcing.
- Demonstrate strong ability to collaborate and create a sense of team when with cross-functional teams.
- Desire to stay updated on emerging technologies; to changing business requirements; continuous learning mindset.
- Ideally a master's degree in computing or a related discipline.
