Job Description
The Customs Operations Agent is responsible for coordinating and executing all operational activities related to customs clearance, port operations, cargo release, and transportation coordination. This role ensures the timely and compliant movement of shipments while maintaining excellent communication with carriers, ports, warehouses, customs authorities, and transportation providers.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and manage cargo routing and dispatch instructions for import and export shipments.
- Process and obtain delivery orders and port release documentation.
- Handle Bill of Lading (BL) release procedures, including obtaining required endorsements and carrier approvals (Visto Bueno).
- Coordinate and process Gate In operations and related terminal requirements.
- Schedule cargo pickup appointments and coordinate transportation services with trucking companies, warehouses, terminals, and ports.
- Arrange and manage extraordinary operational services when required.
- Coordinate empty container return appointments with designated depots and terminals.
- Submit payment requests and ensure invoice regularization and reconciliation within 48 hours of receipt.
- Maintain accurate operational records and update internal systems with shipment status and documentation.
- Monitor shipment milestones and proactively resolve operational issues that may impact service delivery.
- Ensure compliance with local customs regulations, company procedures, and operational standards.
- Support additional operational and administrative tasks as required by management.
Qualifications
- Minimum 1-3 years of experience in customs operations, freight forwarding, logistics, or port operations.
- Knowledge of customs clearance processes, shipping documentation, and import/export procedures.
- Experience coordinating with shipping lines, ports, warehouses, and transportation providers.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet operational deadlines.
