Job Description
Expeditors is seeking a motivated and well-qualified attorney with three (3) to five (5) years of experience practicing law in a law firm or the corporate legal department of a global corporation to support the Real Estate and Global Sourcing practice group. The Commercial Contracts Attorney will assist with complex legal matters, advising Expeditors’ internal clients on legal implications and risk exposures involved in real estate and procurement-related matters across multiple geographies.
As a Commercial Contracts Attorney, you will support the global Legal Department in representing the company’s best interests in interactions with landlords, vendors, and service providers. Day-to-day, you will be responsible for advising internal clients on best practices, risk mitigation strategies, and corporate requirements, as well as drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex agreements. These agreements include confidentiality agreements, real estate lease agreements, construction agreements, equipment lease agreements, asset purchase agreements, various types of services agreements, and information technology-related agreements (e.g., SaaS agreements).
In addition, you will have the opportunity to support litigation management, answer general legal questions from various business teams globally, and contribute to various strategic initiatives owned by the Legal Department and the practice group. A successful candidate must be able to effectively manage multiple matters with different priorities at the same time.
Qualifications
A successful candidate will have:
- A law degree and a professional license/authorization to practice law in Mexico in good standing.
- Fluency in both English and in Spanish is required. Nearly all written communications are conducted in English.
- Previous experience in the freight forwarding and logistics industry (preferred but not required).
- Strong experience in real estate and commercial law.
- Significant contract drafting and negotiation experience.
- The ability to identify, analyze, assess, and communicate legal risks to enable internal clients to make quality, risk-adjusted business decisions.
- Impeccable integrity, honesty, and trustworthiness and an appropriate initiative and work ethic.
- The ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Excellent time management and prioritization abilities.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent judgment and common sense.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in a team.
