Job Description
This Software Engineer role within GEO-IS Solutions department works with a team of developers who support our customers and district operations. Our applications teams enable new capabilities for our districts and operations. Successful candidates must understand or be able to translate complex business requirements into scalable and trusted solutions, including web & desktop applications, and data & API integrations. At the core, a successful Software Developer will excel at the following:
Design, develop and maintain resilient applications
Implements Cybersecurity and Corporate IS development processes
Collaborates with development team and business stakeholders
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain applications according to Expeditors enterprise architectural guidelines.
Provide technical leadership and support throughout the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
Lead the implementation of design and modeling techniques and best practices.
Collaborate with various teams within the Expeditors network to create secure, scalable, and resilient user-focused solutions.
Support teams in delivering solutions efficiently and on schedule.
Assess and evaluate current, alternative, and emerging development methodologies to identify ways to reduce technical debt, maintenance, and support requirements.
Research, evaluate, and implement new tools and technologies that may enhance development team capabilities and outcomes.
Share expertise in established development patterns and standards through coaching and training sessions.
Identify risks and adhere to Cybersecurity and Corporate IS development processes.
Deploy code optimized for performance and verified through monitoring.
Conduct code reviews and perform unit testing to help deliver solutions on time.
Translate business requirements into technical tasks.
Develop technical and end-user documentation.
Support agile work processes and maintain up-to-date work management systems (e.g., Azure DevOps).
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
7+ years professional experience in object-oriented programming in a team environment
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
Advanced proficiency in Java (object-oriented, component-based)
Experience with Python, Angular, JavaScript, HTML, CSS
Hands-on experience with Apache Kafka (data streaming, distributed systems)
Strong understanding of databases (SQL, XML, JMS; relational and NoSQL)
Cloud experience (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
Familiarity with Agile methodologies and CI/CD tools (Git, Maven, Nexus)
Experience with IDEs (Eclipse, IntelliJ)
Effective teamwork and communication skills (fluent in English)
Strong analytical and time management abilities
Work effectively with a cross-functional development team
Self-starter with customer service-oriented attitude, and excellent time management
Desired Qualifications
Knowledge of the freight forwarding industry
Experience with UI/UX concepts
Oracle Java certification
SAFe or Agile certification
Additional Information
This position must be based out of the following Expeditors offices / locations:
United States - Atlanta - GA, Detroit - MI, Edison - NJ, Laredo - TX (Salary Range - $85,000 - $120,000)
Mexico - Nueva Laredo, Monterrey
This position is full time (40 hours per week) Monday through Friday (in office). We are an office business attire company.
