Job Description

The Data & Analytics department is dedicated to providing Expeditors with the infrastructure needed to enable effective reporting, analytics, and business intelligence solutions to our operations staff and customers.  We maintain a broad suite of on-premise and cloud-based products to centralize enterprise data that help drive decision-making for everyone in the company.

The Systems Analyst will be a key member of the Core Enterprise Data and Analytics team. The Systems Analyst works with Product Management to define and set the strategic vision of the wider Software Infrastructure department and drive outcomes. They are accountable to both Product Management and IS stakeholders to deliver value through the team's outputs.  The SA has a fundamental understanding, including detailed knowledge of the technical domain for which the team is responsible.  As such, the Systems Analyst must be able to give detailed direction to development team members so that they understand how each of their individual contributions align with the program objectives and overall IS department and company vision. This Systems Analyst position has the potential to become a Product Owner position.

Additionally, this role involves decomposing issues sent by Support Specialists by analyzing data as it flows through systems and proposing the best solution to meet the customer's needs.  You must be able to talk in depth with software developers about what is needed to implement the proposed solutions and carefully listen and incorporate ideas and concerns, factoring in business value and effort, to agree on a solution.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  • Playing a key role on a collaborative project team, responsible for the design and production of mission critical, enterprise-scale business systems
  • Translating requirements into system design specifications and the implementation of systems throughout the entire software development life cycle
  • Maintaining an awareness of evolving technologies in use by other teams at Expeditors and in the technology industry as a whole
  • As a Systems Analyst, you will be responsible for shaping the direction and quality of the products being developed.  As a member of the Agile team, you will drive the long-term vision, development priorities and requirements for a development team in alignment with core business objectives.
  • You will fully understand and support our team's objectives by clearly articulating business value, breaking features down into user stories with clear acceptance criteria and collaborating closely with program and IS leadership to ensure our products meet the high expectations of our business and our customers.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build, refine, and prioritize team backlog in alignment with the program vision and roadmap
  • Draft specific team objectives for each sprint and program increment
  • Craft meaningful requirements that align stakeholder needs to capabilities
  • Clearly define story acceptance criteria and accept stories into the team backlog
  • Collaborate with Product Owners and Business Stakeholders to resolve dependencies, coordinate efforts, and deliver cross-functional initiatives and technical enablers
  • Lead backlog grooming sessions to facilitate shared understanding of upcoming stories and acceptance criteria
  • Collaborate with Product Management to define Business Features and deem them ready for development
  • Collaborate with Product Management and other groups that may include other products in the Core portfolio on dependencies and shared objectives
  • Analyze and decompose complex business requirements to build software systems and influence design for testability and scalability
  • Participate in team demos, reviews and retrospectives with an eye for continuous improvement
  • Prepare for and participate in Agile Release Train activities, including Program Increment Planning, System Demos, and Inspect and Adapt meetings

This position will sit in the greater Seattle, WA area.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ years of software systems analysis experience
  • Experience with keeping track of dozens of projects in a backlog and deciding priority
  • Proficiency with the system development lifecycle, including agile techniques and other methodologies
  • Experience with relational and non-relational databases and SQL
  • Understanding of database structures, data files and data relationships 
  • Proven interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide spectrum of people
  • Effective at navigating ambiguity and helping diverse teams drive towards clarity and consensus
  • Management of multiple and competing priorities
  • Ability to compose concepts, ideas, and designs into actionable/measurable deliverables
  • Excellent time management and organization skills
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication
  • Ability to recognize and mitigate risks
  • Driven, strong "get it done" attitude
  • Excellent attention to detail required 
  • Certification or ability to become certified as a SAFe Product Manager/Product Owner

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • System or Data analysis experience
  • Knowledge of Unix, scripting, and programming languages
  • Understanding of the supply chain or global logistics industry
  • Working knowledge of Office 2013 or above, Azure Dev Ops (VSTS/TFS), SharePoint
  • Passion for technology
  • Experience as a Product Owner for an Agile team in Scrum or SAFe Frameworks
