Job Description

Responsible for support, troubleshooting and installation/deployment of all Virtualization technologies at Expeditors, including, but not limited to, hardware and software installation and upgrades, maintenance and coordination of contracted support services with all branch locations globally.  Assists and instructs regional IS personnel to perform system updates, patching, installing and troubleshooting issues.

Install and configure hardware
Design new deployments for implementation of new features, requests, or infrastructure improvements
Document and perform implementation plans for projects
Fulfill typical VSA related requests for service
On call duty rotation with Corporate VSA team
Customer: 
Acknowledge customer requests and take ownership 
Maintain a “Disaster Recovery first” mindset when interacting with internal or external customers
Strong follow through with customer engagements, achieving closure
Finance:
Ensure hardware and software resources are efficiently used
Perform return on investment analysis for project efforts

Be involved and suggest system/process improvements.  Develop, maintain and exercise Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions for our Virtualization infrastructure
Diagnose and isolate operating system, server-side networking and application related problems
Provide documentation and training for all system procedures, tools, testing and troubleshooting procedures
Maintain and enhance existing Systems Administration tools and develop new tools using available technology, automating repetitive tasks where possible
Perform system builds and hardware upgrades for both Corporate and GEO Virtualization systems as well as hardware maintenance and repairs/replacements
Provide helpdesk ticketing and emergency support
Provide disaster recovery documentation and procedures
Research and review various technology spaces (Virtualization, Storage, Backup Strategies, etc.) and provide recommendations to continuously improve performance

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of VMware and other virtualization administration
  • Experience in writing automation scripts and/or self-service tools
  • Proficient technical writing skills
  • Technical experience in DNS, TCP/IP LANs, WANs and Ethernet networks
  • Experience using fiber attached storage in both SAN and point-to-point environments
  • Knowledge of backup strategies and products
  • Good troubleshooting aptitude

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • 6+ years of VMware and other virtualization administration
  • Experience in writing automation scripts and/or self-service tools
  • Proficient technical writing skills
  • Strong technical experience in DNS, TCP/IP LANs, WANs and Ethernet networks
  • Experience using fiber attached storage in both SAN and point-to-point environments
  • Experience with web technologies including SSL configuration and load balancing/clustering
  • Practiced in designing and implementing business continuity / disaster recovery and high availability plans
  • Knowledge of backup strategies and products
  • Excellent troubleshooting aptitude
