JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Trainee Stock Planner / Merchandiser

Job Purpose:

To assist in the control of bulk stock levels and forecast customers’ consignment stock and requirements throughout the year. Using history, trends and close communication with the sales team paying attention to budgeted sales.

Monitoring e-commerce sales and stock and identifying slow moving and redundant lines. Working closely with the supply base and members of the team on available capacity and scheduling orders accordingly.


Role responsibilities 

  • Managed Stock Holding (MSH) E-Commerce & Wholesale customers


To analyse stock and sales for customers using system generated reports. Under initial guidance to plan stock forecasts for individual accounts based on turnover and profitability.

Working with a large volume of historical sales and stock data to determine, in cooperation with the individual Account Managers, customer stock requirements. Efficiently extract information from the stock system as and when needed to support this activity.

Monitoring stock against turnover during an year highlighting any slow/none moving styles and determining the reasons. Liaising and agreeing with the account managers on a course of action.

  • Bulk Stock Holding

To update weekly stocks of bulk stocks, based on incoming orders and available stock using system generated reports. Analyse the data and plan external orders to overseas manufacturers in line with the budget on a monthly basis. Continuously progressing deliveries and prioritising where necessary, scheduling orders on containers or Airfreight.

  • Customer Bespoke Lines

Building up a company knowledge of bespoke styles that more than one customer in order to facilitate the amalgamation of stock and buys and to potentially increase our stock turnover.

Understand fully the product range and the sizes available. Able to highlight key selling sizes on products by age range. 

  • New Customer Order Requirement Forecasting

Working closely with senior members of the team and the New Business Team to forecast a new customers’ order profile. Proposing initial buys based on forecasted budget using historical data taking into consideration lead times and production capacity.

Build up a data base of profiles/ratios for product groups based on year group sales. Improving the profiling with data available and monitoring them closely.

Using knowledge and skill to adjust orders produced from the profiling to suit individual customers.

  • E-Commerce stock management

Using system generated reports, monitoring sales and stock position of web accounts throughout the year and especially in the peak period. Placing top up orders to replenish low stock where necessary to maximise sales. Working closely with suppliers on delivery dates.

Closely liaising with the web team 

Setting minimums and checking category codes are correct for customers converting to web

Identifying E-Commerce clients for stock supporting to ease capacity during the busy period. Creating orders under the guidance of the Planners.

  • Administration

Raising P/O’s when necessary and receipting stocks

Keeping delivery schedules up to date and issuing to suppliers.

Attending product development meetings in order to keep up to date with any changes in products or new products coming through.

General housekeeping of stock records / stock movements.

Participation in annual stock take

Role development

Progression from this role would be to Assistant Stock Planner/ Merchandiser, and relevant support and development can be given to reach this stage.

Personality: Team Player, to be able to work on own initiative, good communicator,

Specific Job Skills: Good organisation and prioritisation skills,

Computer skills: IT Literate, with good knowledge of Excel and other stock control systems.
