Job Description

This role is part of a new central team that is in the process of developing a ‘path of least resistance’ for developers, releases and cloud estate management.

Evelyn Partners is in the process of bringing a lot of work back inhouse after a prolonged period of outsourcing much of their cloud management. This role will be highly technical with much of the work focusing around automating much of the manual work currently done by the Release team and creating a monitoring framework for a number of file transfer services. As well as this, there is a lot of BAU that will need documenting and ensuring it’s maintainable and scalable.

You’ll report to the Release Manager, and work closely with other areas of the business. Although some of the work will be decided upstream, a lot will be created as it come to light. So, the ability to populate your own backlog for wider review and manage your daily workload is an essential.  Being comfortable often ending up down a rabbit hole and the ability to think outside the box is essential for this role.

As a Site Reliability Engineer, some of your responsibilities will include to:

  • Develop and deploy automated tool for patching and updating Azure VM’s.
  • Create new and maintain existing automated PowerShell scripts for handling daily SFTP file transfers.
  • Release of internal software and support the release of external SaaS.
  • Use SSMS to monitor and sometimes debug releases.
  • Automate, where possible, pre and post release checks.
  • Improve the monitoring of existing environments using SolarWinds.
  • Actively identify areas of improvement and own fixes.
  • Ensure security is the underpinning of any new process or approaches.
  • Start to develop central knowledge bank of technical documentation.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you should demonstrate:

  • Experience in a Cloud hosted DevOps/SRE/Platform Engineer role.
  • Strong experience working in Microsoft Azure, including, securing Azure environment, basic networking, and security.
  • You have a knowledge of CI/CD tools such Azure DevOps GitOps or Jenkins.
  • Understand automation using PowerShell and Bash.
  • Enjoy collaboratively problem solving to provide simple solutions to complex problems.
  • Experience managing workflows using Jira, and technical documentation using Confluence
  • Experience with .NET development is a desirable but not necessary
  • Experience with monitoring tools such as SolarWinds, Prometheus, Nagios.
  • An understanding of the problems faced by businesses that have recently migrated to the cloud would be a clear advantage.
