Job Description

Progression within this team is fast, with responsibility from an early stage. By the second year, you will be taking on a more senior role and helping to supervise the new intake of trainees. You will also receive internal training from the professional services learning and development team.

You will be working in a client-facing, dynamic team, developing the knowledge and skills needed to be a trusted business adviser. Additionally, you will study towards the AAT , followed by the ACA / ACCA qualification, developing essential skills sought out in the professional services sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare annual financial statements including statutory accounts, predominately under FRS102. This includes consolidated financial statements for our group clients.
  • Developing an understanding of our clients and their businesses.
  • Keeping your manager fully informed of any issues and problems, ensuring the work is completed to a level agreed with the manager and recording clearly and concisely the work carried out
  • Interactions with clients to undertake accounting work as required – both over telephone/e-mail and potentially occasional on-site client visits.
  • Work closely with the audit and business tax teams to provide a seamless service to clients and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Be prepared to share ideas about how best to operate the accounts preparation process in order to improve efficiencies for the firm.
  • Prioritising tasks for your own portfolio of clients, whilst monitoring time against budget

  1. Accuracy – to ensure transactions are processed correctly.
  2. Judgement – to be able to assess a situation and reach a suitable conclusion based on the information available or know when to consult colleagues.
  3. Planning and organisation - needed throughout the process to ensure deadlines are met.
  4. Client focussed - develop relationships and gain the confidence of clients.  Ability to attend to client queries and emails on a timely basis and have the flexibility to work on-site at clients’ premises if required.
  5. Use of IT – be able to work on IT packages such as CaseView and excel. An understanding of cloud accounting packages such as Xero or Exact is desirable.
  6. Commercial awareness - an understanding of each client’s organisation, their industry and business in general assists in putting each assignment into perspective and in identifying potential risks.

Qualifications

  • Be committed to completing the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) qualification, followed by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) qualification or Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA)
  • A Level (predicted or obtained): Minimum 112 UCAS points in top three A Levels (or equivalent), excluding General Studies
  • GCSE: Minimum Grade 5 (or equivalent), in English Language and Maths respectively
