Job Description

Job Purpose:

  • Provide accounting, auditing and taxation services to clients accurately and to budget and time deadlines.
  • Responsible for compliance with policies and procedures to enable the Audit and Accounts Department (“the department”) to work productively and efficiently.
  • Allocate work appropriately to ensure the team is fully utilised and their skills developed.
  • Monitor subordinates’ job performance providing professional coaching and support where required and addressing areas for improvement.

Principal duties: 

Team management:

  • Develop Audit and Accounts seniors and trainees in respect of technical competence.
  • Ensure compliance with approved company policies and facilitate compliance amongst Audit and accounts seniors and trainees.

Client management:

  • Provide accounting, auditing and taxation services to clients accurately and to budget and time deadlines.
  • Maintain professional client relationships and promote the firm’s product to clients and prospective clients.

Key Activities: 

Team management

  • Provide professional coaching and support to seniors and trainees in respect of technical matters.
  • Attend weekly planner meetings having prepared accordingly to ensure the team is fully utilised and their skills developed.
  • Recommend areas for policy and efficiency improvement and changes for adoption.
  • Complete delegated administrative responsibilities (e.g. timesheet authorisations, IT software updates, carry out first interviews and providing recruitment recommendations, etc.) by required deadlines.
  • Carry out staff appraisals for subordinates.

Client management

  • Build professional client relationships.
  • Complete client service requirements to the required standards.
  • Plan and delegate client related work to internal, external and/or statutory deadlines.
  • Ensure compliance with assignment budgets and deadlines.
  • Work with other departments as necessary to service clients’ needs.

Decision making:

  • A high level of personal pride in own work, responsibility and initiative would be expected.
  • Where appropriate, this should be balanced with the need to report back to Directors to keep them informed of job progression and additional client requirements and ensure their agreement.
  • A high degree of autonomy would be expected, whilst still operating within expected firm procedures and processes.

Problem Solving:

  • Minimal technical problems likely to be encountered, with an ability to conduct own research where staff need additional assistance.

Education and Training:

  • Should possess a minimum of 3 years post qualified experience in a similar practice based role.
  • Should possess staff management experience, ideally trainees and seniors.
  • Technical Research and other training as required.

Skills, knowledge and competencies: 

  • Proven experience of reviewing and overseeing a wide variety of accounting assignments under FRS 102, FRS 102 Section 1A, and FRS 105, of varying sizes and complexity.
  • A degree of exposure to group/consolidated accounts essential.
  • Exposure to IFRS desirable, but not essential.
  • Proven experience of reviewing and overseeing a variety of statutory audit assignments, compliant with ISAs.
  • Exposure to specialist audit assignments desirable, but not essential.
  • Proven experience in reviewing and ensuring accuracy of corporation tax computations for a variety of companies.
  • Good awareness of other aspects of OMB taxation (VAT, employment and personal taxes).
  • Exceptional level of personal organisation, and a proven ability to manage staff time and meet deadlines.
  • Exceptional technical competence and experience.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical and logical skills.
  • Technically up to date with awareness of relevant regulatory frameworks.
  • Unquestionable integrity, with excellent communication skills and a flexible, adaptable and committed attitude.
  • Very strong planning skills to provided high standards of client care within tight deadlines. Assessing staff needs and preparing budgets.
  • Ability to work well within a highly professional team environment.
  • Ability to train junior staff, assess and meet their training needs to develop well rounded, highly skilled seniors.
  • Robust IT skills.
  • Able to cope with pressure.

 

Qualifications

What you'll need to be successful:

  • Qualified for an accountancy qualification (ACA, CA, ACCA).
  • Demonstrable audit and accounts experience gained within a professional services firm.
  • Strong communication skills, both internally and directly with clients.
  • Demonstrable experience of supervising others and delegation of work.
  • Ability to motivate staff to ensure best performance.
  • Demonstrable ability to organise self and others, such that you can work on several different assignments at one time.
  • Strong communication skills in order to liaise with clients, directors, staff and other professionals.
  • Ability to pro-actively monitor costs against budget for individual clients.
