Job Description
The Senior Medical Scientist/Biomedical Scientist in the AutoLab Department, an integral part of the Blood Sciences team, will have extensive experience and knowledge in a multidisciplinary laboratory. As a competent experienced Senior Medical Scientist/Biomedical Scientist with a flexible approach to work, you will be required to rotate through all the functions of the AutoLab including Clinical Chemistry, Immunology, Haematology, Infectious Serology, DOA and Molecular Biology. Working closely with and supporting The Chief Medical Scientists and The Laboratory Operations Director, on issues related to the department. Leading and co-ordinating scientific staff and auxiliary laboratory personnel within the department. Supervising and supporting basic grade scientists, students and auxiliary laboratory personnel. Whilst authorising results, ensuring result accuracy at all times. As a Senior Medical Scientist/Biomedical Scientist you will be working with colleagues to contribute towards the continuous improvement of the department. Assisting in the completion and timely reporting of EQA. Participating in the development and maintenance of the ISO 15189 quality management system which is patient centred and ensures quality focused results are provided for patient care, and to assist in the Total Quality Improvement of the department.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor Degree or Master Degree in Biomedical Science
Required licences / certifications or membership:
- CORU registered as Medical Scientist
or
- HCPC registered as Biomedical Scientist
Experience:
- Bachelor Degree- At least 5 years’ experience as a Basic Grade Medical Scientist/Biomedical Scientist
or
- Master Degree- At least 2 years' experience as Senior Medical Scientist/Senior Biomedical Scientist
Knowledge:
- Have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and management ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.
Skills and Abilities:
- A diligent, strong work ethic with the ability to work on your own initiative to ensure an outstanding laboratory service.
- Excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills.
- A proven team player who will enjoy working as part of a close-knit team of dedicated professionals.
