We are seeking an IT Database Administrator who will be responsible for installing, configuring, securing, maintaining, and optimizing database platforms to ensure their availability, performance, recoverability, and integrity. The role manages database lifecycle activities, implements backup and disaster recovery controls, monitors and resolves database-related issues, and provides technical support to application and development teams.

POSITION & OBJECTIVES:

Database Management

• Install, configure, and upgrade MSSQL and PostgreSQL database servers.
• Create, modify, and maintain database objects, including tables, indexes, views, and stored procedures.
• Monitor database performance and implement tuning strategies.

Backup & Recovery

• Develop and maintain backup strategies.
• Implement and maintain high-availability and disaster-recovery solutions, including replication, clustering, and failover technologies to ensure data integrity and availability.

Security & Compliance

• Implement and maintain database security and compliance controls.
• Implement database security policies, including role-based access controls, permissions, and encryption.
• Ensure compliance with applicable data protection regulations (GDPR, HIPAA, etc.).

Performance Optimisation

• Continuously monitor and optimize database performance, capacity, and resource utilization.
• Analyze query performance and optimize SQL statements.
• Manage indexing strategies and partitioning.

Azure & Automation

• Administer and support Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and other database-related Azure services where applicable.
• Develop and maintain automation scripts using PowerShell, Bash, Python, or similar technologies to reduce operational effort and improve reliability.

Operational Support and Reliability

• Monitor database availability, capacity, scheduled jobs, backups, replication, and performance.
• Investigate and resolve database incidents and service requests.
• Perform root cause analysis for recurring or high-impact issues.
• Maintain operational documentation and support planned production changes in accordance with established procedures.
• Collaborate with infrastructure, DevOps, and application teams to support deployments, migrations, and operational improvements.

Candidates should have at least 3–4 years of professional experience in database administration, with exposure to the following technologies:

• Platforms: Windows, Linux
• Database: MSSQL, PostgreSQL (both mandatory)
• ITSM Tool: ServiceNow, BMC Helix, JIRA
• Cloud: Microsoft Azure
• Monitoring: Grafana
• Infrastructure as Code: Terraform

 
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related discipline preferred, or equivalent professional experience.
 

• Technical competencies include practical knowledge of relational database platforms; SQL and query-performance analysis; backup, restore, and disaster recovery methods; access control, encryption, and database security; monitoring and troubleshooting tools; and scripting or automation used for repeatable administrative tasks.
• Ability to communicate technical issues, risks, and recommendations clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Professional proficiency in written and spoken English.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with infrastructure, application support, development, security, and business teams.
• Proactive, accountable, and solution-oriented approach to operational issues.
