Job Description

Eurofins EAG Laboratories is seeking a Failure Analysis Technician to support hands-on investigations of electronic components, assemblies, and systems. Working alongside engineers and technical staff, you will perform diagnostic testing, fault isolation, sample preparation, and laboratory activities that support root cause analysis.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on troubleshooting, working with electronic hardware, operating laboratory equipment, and supporting technical investigations in a fast-paced environment. Success in this role requires strong attention to detail, a methodical approach to problem solving, and the ability to accurately document findings.

What You'll Do

  • Perform hands-on testing, inspection, and failure analysis activities on semiconductor devices, electronic components, assemblies, and systems
  • Execute established test plans and analytical procedures under the guidance of engineers and senior technical staff
  • Assist with fault isolation activities using electrical, mechanical, and physical analysis techniques
  • Operate laboratory equipment such as X-ray systems, microscopes, electrical test equipment, and other analytical tools
  • Collect, organize, and document test results, observations, and supporting data
  • Perform sample preparation activities including deprocessing, cross-sectioning, lapping, polishing, and related techniques as trained
  • Support troubleshooting efforts through hardware inspection, component replacement, rework verification, and validation testing
  • Analyze diagnostic logs, test data, schematics, and other engineering documentation to support investigations
  • Maintain accurate records, photographs, and laboratory documentation
  • Support engineers with report preparation and technical documentation
  • Follow laboratory safety, quality, and equipment operating procedures
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, organization, and laboratory workflows
  • Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and project teams to meet customer schedules and turnaround requirements

Qualifications

Compliance Requirement (ITAR)

This position supports work subject to U.S. export control regulations.

Applicants must meet U.S. Person status as defined by ITAR:

  • U.S. Citizen
  • U.S. Permanent Resident (Green Card)
  • Protected Individual (asylee or refugee)

Education, Experience and Knowledge

  • Associate degree, technical certification, military technical training, or Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering Technology, Engineering Technology or a related field
  • Experience in electronics manufacturing, semiconductor processing, failure analysis, hardware diagnostics, repair, quality, test, or laboratory environments
  • Experience troubleshooting electronic assemblies, systems, or components
  • Familiarity with laboratory and diagnostic equipment such as:
    • Digital multimeters
    • Oscilloscopes
    • Microscopes
    • X-ray systems
    • Electrical test equipment
    • Diagnostic software and tools
  • Experience following written work instructions, test procedures, and quality requirements
  • Ability to document findings and maintain accurate technical records
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work onsite in a laboratory environment and manage multiple assignments
  • Basic understanding of electronics, electrical measurements, and troubleshooting techniques

Preferred

  • Experience supporting semiconductor, electronics, aerospace, defense, automotive, or manufacturing industries
  • Familiarity with failure analysis, reliability, quality, or product-debug environments
  • Experience with hardware diagnostics, component replacement, repair validation, or fault isolation
  • Exposure to sample preparation techniques, cross-sectioning, SEM, X-ray, or related analytical methods
  • Familiarity with Linux-based diagnostic environments
  • Experience using scripting or automation tools such as Python, Bash, or similar technologies
  • Knowledge of ESD handling and cleanroom or laboratory practices

Work Environment & Expectations

  • This is a fully onsite laboratory role in Sunnyvale, CA
  • Work involves operating laboratory equipment, handling materials, and following established safety procedures
  • Position may require standing for extended periods and handling small electronic components and samples
  • Schedule may adjust based on customer priorities, project workloads, and turnaround requirements
  • Must be able to coordinate effectively with engineers, technicians, and project teams to meet deadlines
