Job Description
Position is full-time day shift Monday through Friday. Candidates currently living within a commutable distance of North Kingstown, Rhode Island are encouraged to apply. Compensation- $50,000-$55,000
The Sample Receiving Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Sample Receiving department and ensuring the accurate receipt, login, tracking, and distribution of environmental samples. This position works closely with laboratory management and staff to support operational efficiency, quality, customer service, and regulatory compliance.
Supervisor responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assures compliance with health and safety requirements and serves as a resource for Sample Receiving personnel.
- Ensures adherence to QA and QC protocols and departmental procedures.
- Supervises daily Sample Receiving activities, including sample login, verification, chain of custody review, and sample distribution.
- Assists with scheduling, timekeeping review, and coordination of staffing resources to meet workload demands.
- Provides training, coaching, and support to Sample Receiving personnel.
- Ensures effective communication between Sample Receiving, laboratory departments, project management, and client services teams.
- Adheres to corporate policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Assists in maintaining and updating departmental SOPs as needed.
- Monitors productivity, turnaround times, and departmental performance metrics.
- Assists in investigating and resolving sample discrepancies, documentation issues, and customer concerns.
- Maintains adequate inventory of Sample Receiving supplies and collection kit materials.
- Supports continuous improvement initiatives focused on efficiency, quality, and customer satisfaction.
- Promotes a positive work environment and fosters teamwork within the department.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate would possess:
- Previous experience supervising or leading employees.
- Strong computer and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Self-motivated with a positive attitude and strong problem-solving abilities.
- Customer service experience and the ability to effectively address client concerns.
- Ability to delegate tasks and support employee development and training.
Qualifications
Basic Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of laboratory, sample receiving, sample login, or related environmental testing experience.
- Minimum of 1 year of supervisory, lead, or team leadership experience preferred.
- Experience with environmental samples, chain of custody review, sample login, and collection kit preparation preferred.
- Experience in an environmental laboratory is a plus.
- Must be able to work standing for most of the day.
- Must be able to lift up to 55 pounds.
- Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship.
- Professional working proficiency in English is required, including the ability to read, write, and speak English.
