VetPath, part of the Eurofins network, is New Zealand's leading veterinary diagnostic laboratory. Based in Hamilton, we provide comprehensive diagnostic testing services to veterinary clinics, animal health organisations, research institutions and industry partners throughout New Zealand. Our team is committed to delivering high-quality diagnostic services that support animal health, welfare and disease surveillance.

We are currently seeking a Chemistry Technician to join our team. In this role, you will perform diagnostic testing using modern laboratory instrumentation within a busy veterinary diagnostic laboratory. You will become part of a collaborative team dedicated to delivering accurate and timely results that make a real difference to animal health.

Job Description

As a Chemistry Technician, you will be responsible for:

  • Performing diagnostic Chemistry and Trace Element testing
  • Preparing and processing samples with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Operating and maintaining laboratory instrumentation, including Cobas Pure, Immulite and ICP-MS platforms
  • Performing quality control checks and ensuring results meet laboratory standards
  • Recording, reviewing and reporting analytical data accurately
  • Following established procedures and contributing to our quality management system
  • Maintaining a clean, safe and organised laboratory environment
  • Identifying and communicating any issues or unusual results promptly
  • Collaborating effectively with a supportive team to meet laboratory requirements
  • Taking ownership of your work and understanding the importance of reliable results for the veterinary teams and animals we support

Qualifications

Ideally you will have:

  • A tertiary qualification in Chemistry, Medical Laboratory Science, Biological Science or a related scientific discipline
  • Previous laboratory experience (commercial or diagnostic laboratory experience is advantageous)
  • Experience working within a quality-focused laboratory environment and following standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Understanding of ISO 17025 requirements and laboratory safety standards
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy in sample processing, testing and documentation
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • The ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience with sample preparation and routine laboratory techniques
  • Familiarity with automated laboratory instrumentation, including Cobas Pure, Immulite and ICP-MS platforms
  • Experience performing analytical testing, reviewing results and completing quality control processes
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
