Job Description

The Group Leader – Analytical Sciences is responsible for leading a team of analysts while maintaining strong technical engagement in analytical method development and protein characterization. This role combines hands-on scientific expertise with people leadership, project oversight, and cross-functional collaboration in a regulated laboratory environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and support a team of analytical scientists, fostering technical excellence, accountability, and professional growth
  • Plan, assign, and oversee routine assay execution and method development activities
  • Drive the development of novel separation and identification assays
  • Lead separation, characterization, and identification of proteins and antibodies using:
    • HPLC and UPLC
    • cIEF
    • BioA/GX and related analytical techniques
  • Develop and optimize HPLC- and UPLC-based chromatography methods, including:
    • Size exclusion
    • Affinity chromatography
    • Normal-phase
    • Reverse-phase
    • Ion exchange
    • Hydrophobic interaction chromatography
  • Utilize DAD and FLD detectors to support analytical method development and troubleshooting
  • Review data, ensure accuracy and compliance, and support technical problem-solving
  • Partner with management and cross-functional teams to support project timelines, throughput, and continuous improvement initiatives

Qualifications

  • BS or BA in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline (or equivalent experience); relevant industry experience may substitute for degree requirements
  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on HPLC experience, preferably within pharmaceutical or biotechnology environments
  • Demonstrated experience with HPLC and UPLC method development
  • Strong background in protein and antibody separation and characterization
  • Thorough understanding of chromatographic techniques including SEC, affinity, normal-phase, reverse-phase, ion exchange, and HIC
  • Prior leadership experience or a demonstrated ability to mentor, guide, and lead others in a laboratory setting
  • Strong organizational, communication, collaboration, and presentation skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team; self-motivated, adaptable, and positive leadership style
  • Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship
