Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Laboratory Quality Manager to lead and maintain the Quality Management System (QMS) for our food testing operations, ensuring full compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 and Eurofins Group Quality requirements.

While the position is based in Auckland, the Quality Manager will also provide quality leadership and support to Eurofins Food and Water laboratories across New Zealand and Australia, contributing to regional alignment, system consistency, and high technical standards across the network.

This role is critical in sustaining accreditation, promoting scientific integrity, and supporting operational excellence across multiple sites.

The successful candidate will provide leadership in quality assurance, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and work collaboratively with technical and operational teams to uphold the highest standards of scientific accuracy and customer confidence.

Travel Expectations

This role involves intermittent domestic and international travel to support other Eurofins Food and Water laboratories.
Travel requirements may include:

  • Site visits for audits, assessments, training, and quality system support.
  • Participation in regional meetings, projects, and harmonisation initiatives.
  • Approx. 5-15% travel, depending on operational needs.

 

Key Responsibilities

The Laboratory Quality Manager will be responsible for:

  • Managing, maintaining, and continuously improving the ISO/IEC 17025‑accredited Quality Management System.
  • Coordinating internal audits, external assessments, and proficiency testing, ensuring timely and effective corrective and preventive actions.
  • Serving as the primary point of contact for IANZ and other regulatory or accreditation bodies.
  • Ensuring quality documentation—including SOPs, policies, and technical procedures—is current, controlled, and aligned with Eurofins standards.
  • Supporting method validation, verification, measurement uncertainty processes, and quality control programs across laboratory departments.
  • Leading staff training in quality principles, competency frameworks, and regulatory requirements.
  • Facilitating management reviews and contributing to risk management and continuous improvement activities.
  • Promoting a culture of compliance, scientific integrity, and operational excellence.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should possess:

  • Demonstrated experience in an ISO/IEC 17025–accredited laboratory environment (food, environmental, chemistry, or microbiology preferred).
  • At least 3 years in a dedicated Quality Role (Quality Manager, Quality Coordinator, Quality Specialist)
  • Comprehensive understanding of accreditation principles, laboratory quality systems, and regulatory expectations (IANZ, NATA, MPI, NZFSA etc).
  • Strong analytical, organisational, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, with the capability to engage effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience in internal auditing, root cause analysis, and quality risk management methodologies.
  • A tertiary qualification in science or a related field is strongly preferred.
  • Eligibility to work in New Zealand; ability to travel to Australia.
