Job Description

JOB OVERVIEW 

The Solution Development Lead leads and manages a team of software engineers responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining software solutions that support organizational operations and strategic objectives. This role reports to the IT Director and provides formal supervision, including performance management, workload planning, hiring and talent development. The supervisor collaborates closely with Corporate IT, Quality Assurance, and Laboratory Operations to ensure high‑quality delivery across local and global initiatives. In addition to people leadership, the Solution Development Lead provides technical oversight, ensures adherence to development standards, and drives continuous improvement in tools, processes, and system reliability. 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Provide direct supervision to software engineers, including assigning work, setting priorities, and managing daily activities. 

  • Conduct performance evaluations, deliver feedback, and support career development through coaching and individualized development plans. 

  • Lead recruitment, onboarding, and training of new team members; identify skill gaps and implement strategies to strengthen team capabilities. 

  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high performance culture that emphasizes accountability, quality, and continuous learning. 

  • Address personnel issues, resolve conflicts, and administer corrective actions in alignment with company policies. 

  • Serve as a technical leader for the development team by coordinating daily work, providing architectural guidance, and supporting engineers in solving complex technical challenges. 

  • Design, document, and develop high quality, scalable, and testable software modules based on user requirements, ensuring proper version control and adherence to coding standards. 

  • Create, execute and maintain comprehensive unit tests, integration tests, and validation procedures to ensure the reliability, performance, and quality of developed software. 

  • Mentor and coach software engineers, fostering skill development, promoting consistent development practices, and encouraging knowledge sharing across the team. 

  • Take ownership of complex tasks with minimal supervision, demonstrating sound judgment in troubleshooting, root-cause analysis and resolving technical issues. 

  • Lead collaborative development activities, including peer reviews, design discussions, and refinement of coding guidelines and development standards. 

  • Contribute to project planning by estimating development effort, identifying risks, and helping ensure successful delivery of team commitments. 

  • Stay current with emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices, proactively recommending improvements to tools, frameworks, and development processes. 

  • Evaluate existing systems and applications, recommending and implementing upgrades, optimizations, and modernization strategies. 

  • Develop IT solutions using current technologies and industry best practices, ensuring alignment with architectural standards and long-term maintainability. 

  • Assist in creating and maintaining operational procedures, technical documentation, and system guidelines. 

Qualifications

* This position must be filled from within the Eurofins US Food & Feed Testing organization and requires the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in software engineering, computer science, or a related field; or Associate’s degree plus 2 years of additional relevant professional experience 

  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience working with Object‑Oriented Programming and relational database systems. 

  • Demonstrated experience providing technical leadership, mentoring or coaching within a development team is preferred. 

  • Strong organizational and advanced technical problem-solving abilities. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail. 

  • Ability to lead, motivate, and develop engineering talent while managing multiple priorities. 

  • Capacity to learn new technologies, maintain accurate records, and follow established procedures and policies. 

  • Ability to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences. 

  • Expert level proficiency in C#, .NET, and SQL Server. 

  • Strong understanding of Object-Oriented Programming principles and design patterns. 

  • Thorough understanding of web-based systems running on SQL Server and Microsoft server environments. 

  • Working knowledge of Crystal Reports. 

  • Familiarity with database design, optimization, and performance tuning. 

  • Experience with Windows server environments. 

  • Experience with front end development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Blazor, React, Angular). 

  • Skilled with Agile development methodologies. 

  • Knowledge of Continuous Integration (CI/CD) tools and practices.
