Job Description

Our Sunnyvale laboratory has an opportunity for a Physical Testing Lab Technician responsible for sample handling and preparation, analyses, problem solving, and customer service. The work consists of physical and mechanical testing - scratch, abrasion, durability and drop testing, as well as other methods to damage and degrade physical parts. Results are documented via photography, video and spectroscopy techniques. There may also be lab work involving chemicals and chemical testing.

The job will include working in a team and collaborating with other EAG groups in Sunnyvale and Santa Clara. It will involve very close cooperation with customers and excellent attention to detail is required. Good record keeping and the ability to follow work instructions will be essential. An aptitude for mechanical problem solving and the ability to address challenges in real time is a requirement. Consistency and accuracy are needed throughout all aspects of testing.

Responsibilities:

  • Sample handling, preparation and mounting samples for analysis
  • Method development and troubleshooting
  • Conduct physical, mechanical, and chemical testing
  • Document results and prepare reports on analytical results for customers
  • Regular and timely internal and external communication of results

Qualifications

  • AS or BS degree in Chemistry, Physics, Engineering or Materials Science
  • Experience in following SOPs (standard operating procedures), handling samples and materials in a controlled lab environment
  • Must be able to communicate (verbal and written) effectively with team members to discuss and clarify analytical goals, as well as resolve potential issues
  • Visual acuity and manual dexterity required; perform tasks with high precision
  • Ability to stand, lift, carry and bend while working in the lab
  • Proficient in using Excel

Additional Information

Compensation Range: $28/hr-$36/hr. (Pay rate is commensurate with experience and degree of technical expertise.)

Physical Requirements:  

  • Ability to lift to 10 lbs.
  • Physical dexterity sufficient to use hands, arms, and shoulders repetitively to operate a keyboard and other office equipment. 
  • Ability to use a telephone, access file cabinets, receive and ship customer products
  • Ability to sit for periods of time
  • Ability to communicate clearly and understandably with sufficient volume to ensure an accurate exchange of information in normal conversational distance, over the telephone, and in a group setting
  • Ability to continuously operate a personal computer for extended periods of time (4 or more hours)
