Job Description
Aerosol Extractions Laboratory Group Leader:
- Lead a team of approximately 5-7 Lab Technicians carrying out aerosol extraction on aerosolization machines by following methods in an ISO17025 accredited analytical production laboratory. Aerosol Team collects aerosol on pads or impingers and prepares samples for downstream chemical analysis. Team carries out additional sample preparation duties such as weighing, digesting, shaking, and dissolving samples in preparation for downstream analytical testing.
- Train on all methods and contribute at the bench to serve as subject matter expert on aerosolization. Perform routine instrument, balance, and machine maintenance.
- Schedule and coordinate sample throughput by working closely with the Client, Sample Receiving, and Extractions Teams. Schedule personnel carrying out aerosol extractions based on lab capacity. Establish expectations and accountability of personnel. Proactively plan and maximize productivity.
- Perform instrument calibration, troubleshooting, recognize errors, identify root causes, and maintain excellent working knowledge of laboratory processes and instrumentation. Serve as a method and instrumentation SME. Coach/mentor junior analysts.
- Review and release data. Ensure that all data released has fulfilled quality requirements
- Lead investigations related to CAPAs and Non-Conformances
- Oversee and fulfill all ISO17025 quality requirements, such training, purchasing, and equipment requirements.
- Train personnel; maintain training records up to date for personnel; ensure training records are submitted.
- Perform leadership duties: conduct semiannual performance reviews, approve weekly time-cards and PTO requests, interview applicants, perform succession planning in preparation for growth, address personnel performance issues with support of leadership.
- Meet all productivity metrics (turnaround times, on-time delivery, capacity utilization, etc.) and quality metrics (right-first-pass, nonconformances, investigations, time-to-close of records, etc.).
- Collaborate with Quality Assurance and Special Projects teams to develop, optimize, validate, and transfer new methods to the lab, and to resolve issues / challenges impacting routine production.
- Lead the efforts of implementing continuous improvement projects by documenting ideas, prioritizing projects, documenting projects, maintaining the status, and communicating status to site leadership.
- Serve as part of the site leadership team to collaborate, optimize processes, and maximize overall site productivity through cross-training and flexing resources.
- Apply the highest quality standard in all areas of responsibility; maintain ISO 17025 quality standards and accreditation for the laboratory.
- Demonstrate strong client service skills, teamwork, and collaboration.
Qualifications
- 4-year degree in chemistry or related scientific discipline required with 6+ years of relevant laboratory experience
- Strong leadership experience and interpersonal skills
- Strong scheduling and project management skills
- In-depth experience in a production laboratory environment.
- Experience working within an established quality system (ISO 17025 preferred)
- Detailed-oriented with strong analytical and organizational skills.
- Strong written, verbal and presentation skills along with demonstrated ability to collaborate with others.
- Demonstrate strong client service skills, teamwork, and collaboration
- Strong computer and scientific skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, self-motivation, adaptability, and a positive attitude
