Job Description

We are looking for a Bioprocess Scientist who is passionate about applying engineering and science to solve complex problems. In this role, you will collaborate with a team to develop a harvest operation that supports both traditional fed-batch bioreactors and high-density perfusion cell cultures. Your work will contribute to the production of biological therapeutics, including antibodies, bispecific antibodies, and Fc-fusions, with the goal of making a meaningful impact on the world.

Responsibilities could Include:

  • Help develop and characterize mammalian cell culture harvest operation,
    • specifically continuous centrifuge and depth filtration, as well as other process technology needed
  • Prepare stock and custom buffers and media in volumes Troubleshoot issues with media and buffer performance.
  • Develop formulation documents intended to serve as reference documents in the creation of Manufacturing Formulation Records.
  • Participate in the technical transfer of buffers and media and their associated documents.
  • Develop solution raw material estimates and order materials internally or from vendors
  • Demonstrate scientific rigor in assessing own data and that of others.

Qualifications

The Ideal Candidate will Have:

  • Experience with in-depth and membrane filter sizing
  • Knowledge of continuous centrifugation
  • Prior experience with laboratory practices such as the use of analytical scales, pH meters, and pipettors.
  • Experience with aseptic technique involving the use of a biosafety cabinet.
  • Sound algebra skills for volume and weight conversions.
  • Prior experience with data analysis and reporting.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and demonstrated ability to interface with automated systems
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member in a matrix environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS or MS with an engineering or related field of focus
  • Lab Experience
    • peristaltic pumps, pressure sensors, pH probes, pipet operation, UV spectrophotometry
  • Knowledge of Lab Safety
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills including proven technical writing skills are required.

Additional Information

What to Expect in the Hiring Process: 

  • 10-15 Minute Phone Interview with the Region Recruiter
  • 45-60 Minute Virtual Interview with the Manager and/or Group Leader

Additional Details: 

The position is full-time, Monday-Friday from 8 am - 5 pm. Overtime will be required on a rotational basis to cover weekend Bioreactor sampling and occasional off-shift operations. This role requires flexibility to work off-hours as needed. The schedule is not fixed—there may be times when advance notice is given, while other instances may require same-day adjustment. Candidates living within a commutable distance of Gaithersburg, MD, and the surrounding areas are encouraged to apply.
