Job Description

Microbiology Technologist responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:      

  • Following prescribed procedures, performing any of the tests within any of the laboratory specialties, calculating the results of the tests performed as necessary
  • Operating, calibrating, conducting performance checks, and maintaining any laboratory analyzers or equipment
  • Recognizing and correcting basic analyzer malfunctions; notifying management personnel when appropriate
  • Preparing reagents or media from a prescribed procedure
  • Evaluating media, reagents, and calibrators according to established criteria
  • Conducting established quality control procedures on analytical tests, equipment, reagents, media, and products; evaluating results of quality control and implements corrective action when indicated
  • Performs instrument maintenance, QC reagents and kits
  • Performs routine testing
  • Confirming and verifying results through knowledge of techniques, principles, and analyzers
  • Monitoring quality assurance/continuous improvement programs
  • Monitoring safety programs in compliance with laboratory regulations
  • Utilizes laboratory information systems or other methods to accurately and effectively report patient results
  • Review and follow Standard Operating Procedures
  • Reporting test results conforming to established procedures
  • Supports Eurofins CellTx’ business philosophy, leadership values, and ethics

    Qualifications

    Basic Minimum Educational Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s or Masters degree in microbiology or a related laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution

    Basic Minimum Qualifications:

    • Minimum 1 or more years of relevant experience in microbiology laboratory testing or in microbiology related research
    • Familiar with microbial organism identification, colony morphology identification, gram staining and an understanding of the BD Phoenix System
    • Complete fundamental understanding of testing theory, sample requirements, ability to collect information and compose intelligent specimen investigation and summaries
    • Knowledge of the principles, methods, materials, equipment, and techniques of medical technology
    • Knowledge of the principles of microbiology, chemistry, biology, and bacteriology as related to medical technology
    • Skill in the use of medical laboratory equipment
    • Capable of data analytics
    •  Knowledge of recent developments in the field of medical technology
    • Competency in diagnostic microbiology techniques
    • Good aseptic technique
    • Performs instrument maintenance
    • Performs QC reagents needed for patient testing
    • Competent to perform routine testing for many tests performed within the department
    • Strong communication skills and analytical thinking
    • Ability to perform assigned tasks according to prescribed procedures and to make accurate observations and records of tests results
    • Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship

    • This laboratory carefully maintains all hazardous materials.  All employees must abide by Eurofins CTX’s Safety and Exposure procedures.  This includes using the provided safety clothing and equipment.

    Additional Information

    Position is full-time working 1st shift Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday 9:00am to 7:30pm, with overtime as needed.  Candidates currently living within a commutable distance of Tucson, AZ are encouraged to apply.
