Eurofins TMFI is a forensic services laboratory which not only provides in-house DNA services but also provides access to a wide range of other (analytical) services. Eurofins TMFI currently has three locations and is developing rapidly: the forensic operation is located in Maastricht and Amsterdam and (legal) DNA relationship testing is provided from Gouda under the trade name Verilabs. Eurofins TMFI is a relatively small but rapidly growing and professionalizing organization within the network of Eurofins laboratories. The dynamic organization currently consists of approximately 55 ambitious employees and has a strong ambition aimed at providing maximum support to the Dutch criminal justice system with innovative, flexible and customer-oriented solutions.

Job Description

Eurofins TMFI performs legally valid forensic DNA testing. We are looking for an intern to help us to compare different kits for Y-chromosomal DNA investigation including rapid mutating Y for optimal application in forensic casework and database loading.

 

During this internship, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Gain experience in setting up your own project;
  • Develop your analytical skills by executing your project in alignment with your predeveloped plan;
  • To work in a dynamic and progressive environment.

 

The activities that will be performed are

  • Mock samples preparation (single source and female/male mixture)
  • mPCR
  • Capillary Electrophoresis
  • Genotyping analysis with GeneMapper
  • DNA extraction and qPCR, if needed according to the project/validation plan.

Qualifications

As already inferred from the job description: we are looking for a master intern with:

  • A WO life sciences education with an interest in Biology or Forensic Research;
  • Strong analytical skills (experience with projects is a pre);
  • A proactive attitude and a hands-on mentality;
  • Flexibility and problem-solving skills;
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written;
  • Good knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
