Job Description

  • Our apiary looks after over 350 bee colonies, but our focus is not on harvesting or marketing honey, but on scientific research and protecting bees. In this holistic role, you will be involved in both beekeeping and research.
  • You will be responsible for colony management as part of our scientific studies. This includes swarm control, Varroa treatments, the migration of bees according to study requirements and the overwintering of colonies.
  • You record the development and health of the bee colonies within our studies and contribute to queen breeding.
  • You will also support the implementation and supervision of trials for the approval of plant protection products in the field. You will work with various naturally occurring organisms such as plants and animals.
  • You will take samples of plants, bee products, bees, and other relevant elements. The data collected will be used to investigate the impact of pesticides on bee colonies and the environment.
  • You will document the tests according to standardized methods (GLP), which you can learn with us.

Qualifications

  • You have completed vocational training as a beekeeper. Alternatively in a comparable field such as agriculture, horticulture, or similar, where you can look back on several years of experience as a beekeeper.
  • Your technical and scientific understanding qualifies you for this exciting task.
  • You also have basic knowledge of the common MS Office applications.
  • Good English skills (reading and understanding) round off your profile.
  • A class B driving license is required for this position.
  • Your flexibility and strong team spirit are important to us. You are resilient, reliable, and always willing to learn.
  • Your interest and enjoyment of working outdoors with honeybees are essential for this job. You should also be willing to occasionally work at weekends.
