Job Description

We are seeking a full time Animal Care Technician.  The Animal Care Tech I works under close supervision of the senior technician. The employee will be trained and expected to perform routine husbandry, cage changing, cleaning, sanitizing rooms, stocking supplies, and storing cages. Primarily responsible for physical environment of vivarium. This individual will participate in all aspects of animal work including cage washing, animal receipt, observation, and husbandry, and record keeping related to colony maintenance. Must have ability to follow direction, to be thorough in performing assigned tasks, and to organize work efficiently. Must be able to work a physically demanding job. Must be able to work overtime, weekends and holidays as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides animal care and husbandry, checking food, water, and condition of all animals daily.
  • Responsible for the receipt, examination, verification, and caging of all incoming laboratory animals.
  • Replaces bedding, changes cages, and maintains the animal areas in a clean and orderly condition. 
  • Cleans and decontaminates the facility.
  • Variable work hour requirements. 

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED, Associates Degree
  • Prior experience in vivarium, veterinary or other animal care setting is desirable but not required.
