Job Description

Please note the working hours are: Monday - Thursday (08:00 - 16:30), Friday (08:00 - 15:30)

Main Duties:

  • Manage the performance of the analysts
  • Qualify and ensure that jobs are checked and delivered as required by the customer.
  • Manage the efficient operation of the laboratory, to ensure that schedules are met and that the quality of work meets specified standards. 
  • Ensure that sufficient staff are trained to allow for timely delivery of projects. 

Principal Responsibilities

  • Perform duties in accordance with the requirements of cGMP systems locally.
  • Ensure that activities are scheduled to provide an accurate and timely service to support business requirements.
  • Keep the Managing Director informed on a regular basis of progress and any circumstances which alter agreed timescales.
  • Provide cover as required in any area of the laboratory where extra staffing may be required due to sickness, vacation or high workload.
  • Provide technical and personal development support to staff responsible for.
  • Deputise for the Managing Director as required. 

Laboratory Duties

  • Ensure staff in the team perform all calibrations assigned in a timely manner.
  • Direct staff if housekeeping standards are not being followed.
  • Ensure adequate supplies of materials and consumables are available to support projects.
  • Order materials as required.
  • Manage staff to provide the checking and verifying of all laboratory data, ensuring corrections are made as required. Ensure all results are entered into eLIMS.
  • Work with the team to review protocols, reports and other technical documentation as required.
  • Work with BD and leaders to ensure sufficient information is provided by the customer.

Quality

  • Be responsible for ensuring that all analysis and associated tasks are performed in accordance with Eurofins quality policies and procedures and satisfy the requirements of cGMP and are in accordance with the appropriate regulatory guidelines.
  • Ensure all work is written up on controlled worksheets and in accordance with standard operating procedures.
  • Ensure methodologies used in team are current and correct.
  • Work closely with the Team Leaders to ensure that any laboratory investigation is conducted appropriately in conjunction with the analyst and the QA department.
  • Ensure that the SOP is followed for all investigational work.
  • Ensure that all equipment is calibrated before use and report any non- compliant equipment to the QA department or responsible person.

Health & Safety

  • Ensure that all activities within the laboratory are performed in a safe manner in keeping with the Company’s written procedures.
  • For each new task, ensure analyst is aware of safety measures and ensure they are trained and supervised as required.
  • Report all accidents or unsafe conditions in the workplace to the Managing Director.
  • Participate in Health and Safety Training.
  • Ensure staff are using appropriate PPE at all times.
  • Always know hazards associated with materials being worked on and correct disposal techniques.

Training and Development

  • Ensure all staff in team are trained in the technique prior to commencing analysis.
  • Participate in training as required.
  • Recognise areas where personal development is required and seek guidance for appropriate training.

Communication

  • Maintain a client list for your team and liaise with clients as required specifically related to job progress and potential delays.
  • Communicate frequently with Managing Director with progress updates.
  • Participate fully in meetings when attendance is requested.
  • Participate fully with Quality on issues associated with out of specification results. Also communicate any other Quality issues found in the lab.
  • Participate in the appraisal system.
  • Participate in department audits both internal and external as required.

Qualifications

  • Life Science degree or equivalent.
  • Ten years industry experience (GMP essential, outsourcing sector preferable)
  • Five years leadership experience.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Food Chemistry laboratories.
  • The jobholder must have good IT skills, word, excel, LIMS & pivot tables and excellent analytical skills.
  • Good auditing skills e.g. not swayed, or diverted, be inquisitive etc. 
  • Must have a ‘can do’ attitude and be able to deliver change through people management skills.
