Job Description

This role is based in Livingston, Scotland. It is a full time position working 39 hours per week with a shift pattern of: 09:00 - 17:15 (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday), 09:00 - 17:30 (Wednesday) Weekend work will also be required.

To perform testing and support functions as required, assisting in the efficient operation of the Microbiology laboratory to ensure that schedules are met and that the quality of work meets specified standards. Responsible jointly with all other members of staff to ensure that laboratory is a safe environment, and that appropriate safety equipment is available and used.

Principal Responsibilities

Performing duties in accordance with the requirements of cGMP systems locally. Ensure that activities are planned to provide an accurate and timely service to support business requirements. Identify incidents of out of specification results and inform line management.  Lead investigations as required. Keep line manager informed on a regular basis of progress and any circumstances which alter agreed timescales. Ensure that laboratory equipment remains in calibration and functions as required. Where this is not the case inform the appropriate persons for them to action. All other tasks as delegated by line management.

Laboratory Duties

Perform the following as required:

  • Routine Microbiology requirements including cleaning, environmental monitoring, media preparation, microbial cultures, and growth promotion;
  • Microbiology testing/validation requirements including TVC and Pathogens, Bioburden, Sterility, and Bacterial Endotoxins;
  • Checking and verifying of laboratory data, ensuring corrections are made as required;
  • Any other techniques as deemed necessary by line management.

Quality

Responsible for ensuring that all testing/analysis and associated tasks are performed in accordance with Eurofins quality policies and procedures and satisfy the requirements of cGMP are in accordance with the appropriate regulatory guidelines. Ensure all work is written up on controlled worksheets and in accordance with standard operating procedures. Ensure any CAPA actions are completed in a timely manner.

Health & Safety

Ensure that all activities within the laboratory are performed in a safe manner in keeping with the Company’s written procedures. Report all accidents or unsafe conditions in the workplace.  Use PPE provided at all times within the lab and report any malfunction to line management. Always know hazards associated with materials being worked on and correct disposal techniques. On a frequent basis read SDS provided with materials to keep knowledge up to date. Ensure any CAPA actions are completed in a timely manner.

Training and Development

Participate in training as required. Recognise areas where personal development is required and seek guidance for appropriate training. Ensure training record is accurate and up to date at all times.

Communication

Communicate frequently with line manager with progress updates. Participate fully in meetings when attendance is requested. Participate fully with QA on issues associated with workload and out of specification results. Also communicate any other quality issues found in the lab. Participate in appraisal system as requested by line management. Participate in departmental, internal and external audits.

Human Resources

Qualifications

  • Degree in Life Sciences essential
  • Appropriate experience in the GMP pharmaceutical industry, minimum of 3 – 5 years
