Job Description

Please note the working hours are: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday 08:00 - 16:15 and Wednesday 08:00 - 16:30.

To support the efficient operation of the laboratory, to ensure that schedules are met, and that the quality of work meets specified standards. Ensures that laboratory is a safe environment, and that appropriate safety equipment is available and used.

Principal Responsibilities

Performing duties in accordance with the requirements of cGMP.  Ensure that activities are planned to provide an accurate and timely service to support business requirements.  Keep line manager informed on a regular basis of progress and any circumstances which alter agreed timescales.  Complete all other tasks as delegated by management.

Laboratory Duties

Perform the following as required:

  • Responsible for ensuring that daily consumables are monitored and stocked.
  • Responsible for ensuring glassware and other tools are readily available to analysts.
  • Logging new reagents into the system, logging out expired reagents, segregating reagents into specific locations.
  • Ensures that there are no chemicals or reagents in the laboratory that have expired.
  • Responsible for calibrating automatic pipettes and balances.
  • Responsible for logging of columns and new equipment.
  • Responsible for refilling desiccators and pipette washers when out of date.
  • Responsible for removing laboratory waste (includes waste from Micro).
  • Responsible for ordering of materials, including following up on ordered items.
  • Responsible for keeping the laboratory area clean and tidy in all areas.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of the water systems.
  • Responsible for preparing reagents prior to analysis.
  • Responsible for administration of documentation, i.e. filing, archiving.
  • Responsible for organising and arranging for samples to be sent out for inter-company analysis.
  • Responsible for keeping their training records up to date.
  • Responsible for cleaning laboratory equipment as required, e.g. refrigerators, etc.
  • Responsible for all storage areas, cupboards, drawers in the laboratory, i.e. they are tidy and only contain relevant items.

After training, any other techniques as deemed necessary by management to assist the business in meeting timelines.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Life Science
  • Previous experience within a laboratory not required.
  • Experience in working in part of a team.
  • Good organisation and time management.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to self motivate.
