Job Description

PURPOSE

This role will join a growing team of R&D and clinical staff supporting our new genomics core lab. As an NGS Scientist, responsibilities will include performing wet bench and analytical work for Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) assays, genotyping arrays, and cross-functional collaboration supporting new test development

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform wet bench and analytical testing for a variety of NGS library types to support production and discovery testing
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on sequencing related questions
  • Write technical reports and method/instrument SOPs
  • Work with R&D team on development and validation of new NGS and other molecular based assays
  • Assist and support other molecular biology tasks and projects as needed for the laboratory

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in a relevant biology discipline, or bachelor’s degree in a relevant biology discipline with a minimum of 2 years relevant industry experience
  • Expertise with basic molecular techniques including qPCR, nucleic acid extraction and analysis (Qubit, Bioanalyzer, etc.)
  • High-level understanding of informatics workflows for the analysis of sequencing data
  • Ability to work independently and adapt under aggressive and/or changing timelines

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Familiarity with liquid handling instruments (i.e Hamilton, Agilent Bravo)
  • Demonstrated problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Knowledge of some scripting/bioinformatics tools is preferred (i.e R, python, perl, jupyter notebooks, Illumina BaseSpace apps)
  • Detail-oriented, well organized, dependable record keeping
