Job Description

This post is designed for a suitable individual to work as part of a laboratory team and oversee the installation, management, upgrades, and support of laboratory systems, including all middlewares and laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and any implementations of further LIMS.

  • To work independently and oversee the Laboratory Information Management system (LIMS) and quality aspects.
  • Oversee implementation, configuration, maintenance, and upgrades of the electronic Laboratory systems such as LIMS.
  • To help coordinate updates with the wider IT team and be the first line of support during downtime.
  • To contribute to the operations by assisting in training for all matters related to IT.
  • To write, review and approve Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the IT with compliance to GDPR and adherence to UKAS ISO 15189.
  • Troubleshoot software errors, document problems and resolutions, and assess the impact of issues.
  • Perform user access administration and account audits; ensure that change authorisation and documentation are completed.
  • To liaise with senior medical and scientific staff to effectively plan IT updates, allowing for minimal disruptions to the operations.
  • Maintain and manage the quality assurance procedures within IT, ensuring UKAS ISO15189 standards are maintained, including leading on the planning, conducting and reporting user acceptance testing.
  • To keep up to date with personal development and maintain relevant knowledge relating to all laboratory systems, including LIMS and middlewares.
  • Comply with the company’s policies and procedures.
  • Have the ability to participate effectively as a team player in all aspects of the laboratory.
  • Communicate effectively to all medical laboratory assistants, scientists, seniors, leads and managers.

Qualifications

  • IT degree qualification at BSC/MSC level
  • Strong knowledge of systems and networking software, hardware, and networking protocols including LIMS and middlewares.
  • Significant amount of experience with electronic laboratory systems, LIMS.
  • Experience with drafting, reviewing, and approving protocol scripts for software upgrades.
  • Must be familiar with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Detail oriented with strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to analyse with proficiency in the application of problem solving and root cause analysis methodologies.
