Job Description

EAG Eurofins is a scientific services company offering a breadth of expertise and a diversity of analytical techniques to help our clients understand the physical and chemical properties of their materials.  Join our multi-disciplinary team as a TXRF/XRF scientist.

Responsible for operating analytical TXRF (Total Reflection X-Ray Fluorescence) and XRF (X-Ray Fluorescence) instrumentation. This position requires a solid technical foundation in materials science and/or analytical chemistry.

A typical day in the TXRF/XRF group will consist of multiple activities and interactions, including:

  1. Writing up reports and processing previously acquired data
  2. Planning upcoming analyses
  3. Loading the instruments and acquiring new data. For TXRF, this would involve entering our class 10 cleanroom once or twice a day. The instrument is operated remotely so cleanroom time is only needed to exchange batches of samples.
  4. For XRF, you may need to prepare the samples using one of our prep tools, such as our fluxer.

In parallel with that, you will likely have multiple other demands on your time:

  1. Internal group meetings to plan overall use of the instruments to meet deadlines
  2. Requests from customers to discuss prior reports or they may have questions about future analyses
  3. Meetings with the EAG sales team (which may also include customers) to discuss analyses and how we can help solve customers’ problems

You may also have some longer-term projects you are working on, such as:

  1. Developing new analysis methods for new materials
  2. Producing marketing materials or writing a paper
  3. Working with our support team or vendors on fine tuning our instruments
  4. Learning another adjacent technique or other training goals

All of these activities require a lot of communications, cooperation and collaboration with your co-workers and colleagues. You’ll be learning to do a lot of things at once to keep multiple projects all moving forward, and you will be keeping other people in the team updated as to what you are doing. It’s a fast-moving job and we all like to share the load so helping other people in the team, and also being helped by them is part of what we do, in order to collectively help our clients meet their goals. Along the way you’ll do a lot of science too!

Qualifications

Ideal candidate will have a BS, MS or PhD degree in Chemistry, Physics or Materials Science with 1 or more years of industrial experience designing analytical protocols, operating TXRF and XRF analytical instrumentation, interpreting TXRF and XRF analytical data, applying an understanding of the data to solve specific problems, writing scientific reports that include methodology, conclusions and supporting data, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with firm deadlines.
