Job Description

Eurofins Lancaster Laboratories PSS is searching for a Crystallization Associate Group Leader in La Jolla, CA.

Crystallization Associate Group Leader responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Supervisory component (20%)

  • Lead and manage up to nine team members
  • Create and drive a positive, inclusive, success-oriented, high performing team
  • Track and monitor team performance using internal and external metrics
  • Implement employee development opportunities including career growth, technical growth, leadership growth, and facilitate peer-to-peer cross training
  • Identify and resolve service and personnel problems in a timely manner
  • Escalate service and personnel problems as needed
  • Timecard approvals, PTO approvals, and other related administrative tasks
  • Collaborate with and report to area leadership

Technical component (80%)

  • Conduct solid-state characterization experiments to understand the physiochemical properties of small molecules
  • Responsible for designing, executing and trouble-shooting small scale (<1g) crystallization/wet chemistry experiments in a fast-paced laboratory environment
  • Experience growing single crystals for structure determination (slow diffusion, slow evaporation, heat/cool, etc)
  • Experience with process scale-up for isolation of drug substances (vacuum filtration, centrifugation, slurries, seeding, etc)
  • Basic knowledge of salt and polymorph screening processes
  • Good lab practices including data management using electronic laboratory notebooks
  • Expertise in solid state characterization techniques (polarized light microscopy, powder X-ray diffraction, thermal analysis (TGA, DSC), dynamic vapor sorption analysis, high performance liguid chromatography, NMR, etc)
  • Comfortable collaborating with colleagues and clients on project teams to effectively communicate experimental observations and plan for activities to maintain project timelines
  • Independent and systematic multitasker with excellent problem-solving skills
  • Hands on experience with relational databases and complex spreadsheets
  • Lead team, schedule, and train employees in client environment
  • Ensure adherence to highest quality and efficiency standards in laboratory operations
  • Foster morale and teamwork

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry or chemical engineering or other related degree concentration, or equivalent directly-related experience (two years of directly related industry experience is equivalent to one full-time year of college in related major)
  • 2-3 years experience
  • Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship
