Most medical devices have software and rely on a wireless or wired connection.  The software in these products, like all technologies, can become vulnerable to cyber threats, especially if the device is older and not built with cybersecurity in mind.

As a Medical Cyber Expert (permanent contract or freelance) you ensure that medical equipment of our customers is safe & sound and able to withstand cyber threats.

This role requires you to continuously learn, to keep up with the dynamics in the cyber security sector with a special focus on 'medical devices'

Job Description

  • Monitoring cybersecurity information to help identify and detect vulnerabilities.
  • Maintaining software life-cycle processes such as: 

               o    Monitoring third-party software components for new vulnerabilities.

               o    Design verification and validation for software updates and patches.

               o    Using threat modelling to help maintain the safety and performance of a device.

               o    Mitigating cybersecurity vulnerabilities early and before they are exploited.

  • Identification of assets, threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Assessment of the impact of threats on device functionality and patients.
  • Assessment of the likelihood of a threat or a vulnerability being exploited.
  • Determination of risk levels and suitable mitigation strategies.
  • Assessment of residual risk and risk acceptance criteria..

Qualifications

  • Master or Bachelor in engineering or related field and /or equivalent through experience / education
  • Two (2) years of related IT work experience.  A big plus is if this is in the context of Clinical Engineering or equivalent in terms of focus
  • Average to thorough knowledge of computer security best practices and policies, including proven experience in securing personal computers and embedded systems against data loss, malware, and unauthorized access
  • Understanding cybersecurity management for Windows operating systems (Windows XP – Windows 10), Linux/Unix, and other TCP/IP-based network systems
  • Understanding network configuration, troubleshooting, and authentication for Windows operating systems (Windows XP – Windows 10) and Linux/Unix desktop, server, and embedded systems
  • Demonstrated ability to install and configure computer operating system software (i.e. Windows, Linux), application software and databases
  • Understanding the core principles and operation of network systems and their management software
