Job Description

The Systems Engineer is primarily responsible for engineering, configuration, installation, maintenance, and upgrade of physical as well as virtual servers, storage, backups, and disaster recovery planning.

Essential Job Duties:

Level I - Minimum

  • Assist in research, evaluation, and recommendation of hardware and software such as servers, virtualization, as well as backup software. 
  • Assist in supporting corporate servers, user desktops, etc.
  • Assist in design, configure or upgrade or virtual server environment.
  • Assist with basic troubleshooting of backup, and archiving.
  • Assist in identifying, diagnosing, and resolving connection, reliability, or performance issues.
  • Keep workroom neat, organized and secure
  • Work under close to moderate supervision with limited latitude for independent judgment
  • Consult with senior peers on non-complex projects to learn through experience
  • Apply basic application management and administration skills with moderate level of proficiency
  • Represent department and the organization favorably and in accordance with established Company standards and associate attributes
  • Work within defined ITIL processes such as change and incident management. Other duties as assigned by management

 

Level II – Fully meets the responsibilities of Level I plus the following:

  • Research, evaluate, and recommend hardware and software such as servers, virtualization, as well as backup software.
  • Support of corporate servers, user desktops, etc.
  • Design, configure or upgrade server environments.
  • Assists with advanced troubleshooting, backup, and archiving
  • Identify, diagnose, and resolve connection, reliability, or performance issues
  • Work within and assist with management of defined IT processes and procedures including Systems Development Life Cycle methodology
  • Work with little to no supervision with latitude for independent judgment.
  • Consult with senior peers on medium to complex projects
  • Assist in overseeing the primary activities of individual contributors (see above) to ensure completion of tasks and attainment of departmental goals

Qualifications

Level I - Minimum

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, business or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of experience with server support a must, preferably Windows 2016 and 2019 server
  • Active Directory, Domain Management and Group Policy Experience.
  • Windows Deployment Services Experience
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving ability
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Knowledge of reference lab operations and processes a plus
  • Knowledge and management of System Development Lifecycle Methodologies a plus
  • Experience in maintaining technical documentation to insure efficient planning and execution
  • Goal oriented, with excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with ability to interact effectively and work efficiently with people at all levels in an organization
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills
  • Keenly attentive to detail
  • Ability to keep sensitive information confidential
  • High level of proficiency with PC based software programs including MS Office suite and project management tools, MS Project preferred

 

Level II – Fully meets the qualifications of Level I plus the following:

  • Minimum of 3-7 years of server support a must, preferably Windows 2016 or 2019 server
  • Minimum of 3-7 years of experience managing VMware virtual server environments
  • Minimum of 3-7 years in manage, design, configure, and upgrading backup solutions
  • Minimum of 3-7 years manage, design, configure, and upgrading storage solutions
  • Experience in supporting Microsoft Exchange environments (Exchange online a plus)
  • Experience in supporting Linux server environments a plus
  • Experience using and applying System Development Lifecycle Methodologies
  • Previous experience in a reference lab or similar regulated/controlled environment

Additional Information

Position is a 12 Month Contract. Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm. This position is on site and all candidates within Framingham, MA commuting distance are encouraged to apply.
