Job Description

The Role:  

The daily preparation of samples for analytical testing to meet testing turnaround times.

Main duties: 

  • Cut, chop, grind and weigh out test samples to the required specifications and within the required time frame
  • Update the work allocation spreadsheet / LIMS to show the status of each sample as it is prepared
  • Label each sample container with the unique sample identity and precise weight
  • Arrange the prepared samples according to test method type and date that the result is due
  • Transfer excess sample into the designated storage area for eventual disposal
  • Maintain the stock of each type of sample container and other consumables
  • Contribute towards the continuous improvement and development of the department
  • Ensure that the sample preparation room is kept tidy and that all equipment is switched off at the end of the day
  • Ensure that all activities are compliant with applicable laboratory accreditation policies and procedures.
  • Assist with report writing ensuring that reports comply with customer expectations (template, sample information, test methods, specifications, test data, results, etc.)
  • Perform any other reasonable duties assigned by management

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 GCSE’S or equivalent including a science subject of grade C or above or equivalent.
  • The ability to multi-task and plan work effectively to meet deadlines using own initiative
  • Positive attitude with a sense of urgency
  • Be accountable and responsible for own workload 
  • Flexible approach to working additional hours when volume deadlines dictate
