Job Description

SUMMARY OF POSITION AND OBJECTIVES: 

Eurofins BioPharma International Business Line is a global, premium-class contract research organization (CRO) covering the whole chain of drug development including the preclinical and clinical phases with focus on Early Development, Central Laboratory Services and BioPharmaceutical Product Testing.

Within this International Business line, BioPharma Product Testing (BPT) spans the complete product development cycle by performing analyses at every stage: API & impurities analysis, stability studies, method development and validation, packaging testing (suitability, protection, sterility), cleaning validation, environmental documentation, sterility testing and hygiene monitoring, for small and large molecules. The global network of our local subsidiaries in Denmark, France, Germany, UK, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Italy, Belgium, Switzerland, Ireland, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and the USA guarantees an industry leading range of methods, high capacity, the highest standards in our harmonized QA system and outstanding performance with low turn-around times.

You will assume the key role in Eurofins BPT Munich (Planegg). Planegg is the biggest of all BPT’s sites in Europe and among the biggest in Eurofins overall. The site is focusing on biologics testing, microbiology, in vitro toxicology and pharmacology, and immunoanalytics and bioanalytics. You will be responsible to expand the business and capture intercompany opportunities, initially focusing on laboratory operational improvements and growth in the biologics area, with the aim of margin improvements along the agreed upon plans and strategy (annual budgets and mid-term plans).

POSITION & OBJECTIVES

  • Develop the Business Unit activities through organic growth with the objective of a minimum 15% organic growth per year and potentially in-organic growth in order to meet annually agreed EBITA growth and margin objectives.
  • Develop further the BPT strategy to grow the business and offer new services upon strategic opportunities.
  • A notable focus early on will be operational improvements including better resource utilization thus helping bring the site reach the required profitability level. This includes the introduction of the appropriate tools and techniques to reduce consumables cost, building costs and any other variable costs.
  •  Improve operational efficiency at laboratories including all lab systems to ensure its efficient usage at all levels of the laboratory to improve productivity, profitability and quality.
  • Support the QA department to increase the quality standard applied in the Company while making Quality a tool to improve the Company productivity.
  • Lead according to Eurofins Leadership Charter and at as a role model for leadership and staff – which means to hire, motivate, develop and retain excellent Leaders and employees meeting the Eurofins preferred personality profile.
  • Maintain customer’s satisfaction, including of internal customers.
  • Keep a close connection with the German NSC to obtain the best services for the Company in terms of finance, procurement and IT Infrastructure.
  • Make sure those cross-selling synergies with other Eurofins laboratories in Europe are being developed and that the Munich site actively participates in the integration in the D/A/CH region.
  • Spend a reasonable amount of time in the lab and visiting other laboratories to import/export best practices.
  • Prepare and propose annual budget and three-year mid-term plan. Report on any deviations to agree upon results and work closely with financial controlling.
  • Guarantee and control that all relevant legal and health & safety requirements are being abided to, in the Business Units under his/her direct or indirect responsibility, that the accreditations are being maintained and regularly expanded and that all employees act according to Eurofins values.

Qualifications

  • Master of Science or PhD in chemistry, biochemistry, pharmacy, engineering or equivalent. 
  • 5-10 years of experience in the Testing or Life Science business with at least 3 years of full P&L responsibility.
  • Candidate is energetic, passionate and strongly business minded / has proven leadership effectiveness including team building skills / has proven ability in communication / entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Good understanding of the pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical industry working under GMP; knowledge of the medical device industry is a plus
  • Candidate works effectively in a process driven environment, has demonstrated financial success and has been responsible for the business he has developed himself.
  • Hands-on, hard worker, action-oriented individual with common sense and excellent understanding of financial matters.
  • Candidate is a successful leader of diverse staff, with focus on production, re-engineering and cost reduction respectively cost control.
  • Fluent in German and English.
