Job Description

The Role

To work within a busy laboratory environment dealing with internal/external customers ensuring our excellent customer service is upheld. Contribute to the success of the casework team in various key areas including casework administration, submissions function and laboratory technician.

The role may be required to participate in any requirement for shift working and/or weekend rota cover (in office or on call) as business needs dictate, either on the basis of hours which are additional to the standard week or by rostering. Where this is required, appropriate rota payments will be made.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • To include but not limited to:
  • Archiving and retrieval of hard copy and electronic files as required
  • To actively manage and carry out the process of returns, transfers, retention and destruction of exhibits submitted for forensic examination. To ensure that full continuity and chain of custody is maintained at all times.
  • To be responsible for general office duties. To include filing, meeting visitors and handling incoming and outgoing post
  • Maintaining key databases and assisting with data entry task
  • Order, store and distribute reagents and consumables
  • Scheduling and supervision of maintenance engineers in line with business requirements
  • Booking travel arrangements and accommodation
  • To maintain and clean lab, submissions and exhibit storage areas.
  • To monitor storage conditions including taking fridge and freezer temperatures
  • Assist with the booking in of exhibits upon submission, general administration including estimating/invoicing and overseeing defence scientists
  • Support with the booking and organisation of occupational health visits

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Experience and Technical Skills

  • Understanding and abiding by the confidential nature of the business
  • A minimum of 5 GCSE’s at grade C or above to include English, Maths, Science and ICT

Additional Information

Due to the highly sensitive nature of the work, applicants should note that security clearance is required for this role. To gain security clearance you must have three years continuous residency in the UK. Criminal convictions may prevent you from gaining security clearance.  This role may in addition require random alcohol/drug screening.

Due to the nature of the work we undertake on-site, you must inform us if you come into contact with any firearms or ammunition through work or any other reason as there will be precautions you will need to take in order to enter the premises.  This also applies to persons involved in clay pigeon shooting, and those who regularly use any cartridge based tools such as nail/stud guns.  Please provide details on your application.
