Senior Software Engineer, Marketplace Risk
- 66 Strand Street Great, Dublin 1, Ireland
Etsy is the global marketplace for unique and creative goods. We build, power, and evolve the tools and technologies that connect entrepreneurs with buyers around the world. As an Etsy employee, you’ll tackle unique problems alongside talented coworkers committed to Keeping Commerce Human. We're large enough that you'll focus on meaningful, complex challenges, but small enough that you can make a rewarding impact.
Etsy is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join its new Marketplace Risk team. Marketplace Risk is responsible for creating tools and automated frameworks our Trust & Safety organization and agents can use to efficiently monitor and respond to our marketplace while keeping a sense of community. You will help coordinate our engineering efforts between the agents that provide front-line response, security engineering, and the members that expect a reliable and safe experience.
The technical staff at Etsy believes that code is craft, and that the work we do is part of a larger creative culture that includes the hundreds of thousands of inspired artists and designers who make Etsy such a unique marketplace. We believe that small, empowered, self-motivated teams can do big things. We believe in measuring everything, taking advantage of our pioneering continuous deployment system to ship code early and often, and keeping up a blameless culture based on trust and a commitment to learning.
About the role

Work closely with agents and analysts that actively observe patterns to rapidly define new automated controls.
Leverage a rich data warehouse of metrics and behavior information to alert and take action on trends of user behaviors.
You are a full stack software engineer with experience in one or more high level programming languages. Our hiring is language agnostic; Python, Go, Ruby, Java, C++ are all backgrounds we onboard people from.
You are customer focused, build with a user in mind and think of infrastructure and services in product terms.
You are a strong communicator and are willing to take on a mentoring role with teammates and peers.
You are a great listener and take the time to understand the needs of the stakeholders.
You write understandable, testable code with an eye towards maintainability.
You enjoy thinking about the implications of your work on end users.
If you're interested in joining the team at Etsy, please send a cover letter and resume telling us why you'd be right for the position. As you’ve hopefully seen already, Etsy is a place that values individuality and variety. We don’t want you to be like everyone else — we want you to be like you! So write to us and tell us what you’re all about.
