Job Description

Reporting to Equinox’s Chief Legal Officer, the Senior Counsel, Corporate & Compliance will be primarily responsible for supporting the organization’s legal needs with respect to corporate and financing transactions, legal entity maintenance and governance, and regulatory and policy compliance. The Senior Counsel, Corporate & Compliance must have expertise in complex corporate law matters, extensive experience drafting and negotiating corporate agreements and commercial contracts, and an appetite for learning and counseling within new or changing areas of compliance and the law. The Senior Counsel, Corporate & Compliance should be a business-oriented lawyer with the ability to recommend policies, solutions and strategies to a high-growth business and be able to manage multiple, complex projects in a fast-paced environment.

  • Provide legal support on corporate matters, working closely and collaboratively with all parts of the organization, including finance, business development, and operational teams
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of governance documents, term sheets, and corporate agreements for the company and its subsidiaries
  • Advise on best practices and compliance with corporate and regulatory matters for the company and its subsidiaries
  • Assist in developing, maintaining and enhancing new processes, policies and procedures and implementing compliance training and monitoring
  • Maintain corporate and legal entity structure and compliance
  • Provide broad support to colleagues within the Legal Department

Qualifications

  • Minimum 8-10 years of legal experience handling a broad assortment of corporate and compliance matters
  • The ideal candidate will have a mix of prior in-house experience at a fast paced and dynamic organization and prior law firm experience at a top firm
  • Excellent academic credentials, including a JD from a top law school
  • Admission and member in good standing of the New York bar
  • Strong business instincts and acumen and the ability to assess legal risk
  • Exceptional analytical, writing, and communication skills
  • Excellent project management skills combined with strong attention to detail
