Job Description

As a Principal Software Engineer reporting to our Vice President, Digital Innovation, you will help us on our quest to innovate the future member experience as part of our high-performance lifestyle platform and ecosystem. This is a craft-mastery level role for software engineers that have been honing and perfecting their skills for years to create transformational software that propel businesses forward either through expansion or the creation of products. 

Focusing on our future experiences, you’ll take an active role in defining and executing against our technical strategy in alignment with product and design. You will be creating new connective experiences that bridge physical and digital experiences across multiple lines of business and member-facing product/service offerings. To be successful, you will partner across our senior engineering and product leadership teams to improve process and culture across engineering. In partnership and concert with peer engineering teams, contribute to building a great engineering culture that is focused on delivering value to our members.

You will create connectedness across our portfolio of brands, products and services. And you will excel under high-profile, high-pressure environments to realize your maximum potential and deliver high-performance.

 

Responsibilities

  • Key member of a small, ninja squad with other principal design & engineering talent

  • Collaborate with internal partners to evolve and execute our product innovation strategy

  • Lead the creation and delivery of new initiatives that advance our overall innovation strategy

  • Lead technical requirements gathering in partnership with your product and design.

  • Drive technical design and systems architecture across our full ecosystem of digital products and applications

  • Drive complex cross-team initiatives, bringing in and partnering with engineering, product and design from other pods and departments as needed

  • Own the code you put into production with a focus on front-end development, supporting back-end development as needed.

  • Support and advance thought leadership opportunities that arise from our work

 

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience developing highly-available, critical user-facing systems

  • BS/MS in Computer Science (or relevant experience)

  • Demonstrated experience building mobile-first customer-facing applications in React & Redux or similar frameworks

  • Demonstrated experience building native mobile-first applications (iOS preferred)

  • Demonstrated experience writing scalable, high-performant, clean code

  • Demonstrated experience developing web services

  • Demonstrated experience with relational databases

  • Strong understanding of AWS (e.g. ECS, CloudFormation, IAM, RDS, etc.)

  • Demonstrated experience designing and developing platform level, reusable components

  • Experience working on teams with a heavy emphasis on DevOps, CI/CD, Automation and Quality (e.g. Jenkins, Docker, etc.)

  • Experience working in an agile development environment

  • Experience driving technical excellence and engineering practices across teams

  • Build strong relationships with your peers and have a willingness to jump into any task

  • Are optimistic and believe there is a better way to do things

  • Think of the customer first and seek to delight them in new and exciting ways

  • Love what you do
