Job Description

We seek an energetic, self-starting and skilled Bookkeeper with strong A/P, A/R, reconciliation, accounting software, Excel and communication skills to support our Administrative department. This is an excellent opportunity to hone your accounting and financial management skills as part of a dynamic team at a leading grassroots advocacy organization. The ideal candidate will be passionate about social justice and all things numbers! As one of four dedicated administrative staff for the organization, you will gain insight into every aspect of the department. Reporting to the Director of Finance & Administration, the Bookkeeper will have ownership of QuickBooks, monitor all staff financial transactions, and will play a supporting role in managing day-to-day accounting activities.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Managing the complete Accounts Payables and Accounts Receivables functions, including entering receipt and disbursement transactions into QuickBooks, and tracking and managing A/P and A/R balances
  • Processing staff purchase and reimbursement requests
  • Enter and translate staff financial transactions into accounting software using adequate accounting terminology
  • Tracking and processing staff credit card transactions
  • Entering bi-weekly payroll data into QuickBooks
  • Tracking information for 1099 vendors and processing 1099 forms at year end
  • Entry and reconciliation of development department data into QuickBooks
  • Preparing monthly invoices/expense reimbursements for grant funders
  • Preparing financial reports, as needed/directed
  • Creating documentation for the external accountants and assisting with preparation of annual 990 filings and audit
  • Monitoring and enforcing fiscal policies, procedures, and internal controls
  • Managing the organization’s chart of accounts
  • Participating in the creation of annual operating and program budgets
  • Maintaining orderly accounting records and files (electronic and paper)
  • Assisting with other clerical/administrative duties as needed

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3-5 years experience working in non-profit accounting/bookkeeping
  • Meticulous attention to accuracy and detail
  • Strong ability to "jump right in" and be a strong team player 
  • Experience tracking and reporting on restricted grants
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks and Microsoft Office suite- especially Microsoft Excel; familiarity with DonorPro a plus
  • Comfort working in a Mac environment
  • A positive attitude, resourceful, diligent, flexible, friendly personality, sense of humor, and the ability to get along with many types of people

Additional Information

Compensation: $50,000 - $55,000 commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits including employer-paid medical, vision and dental care, retirement plan, 20 days paid vacation, 12 paid sick days, 11 paid holidays, 2 personal days, long-term disability insurance, and professional development allowance.
