Job Description

We are seeking an experienced, flexible and patient-centred Nurse Educator with a clinical speciality in Perioperative nursing who will be an active part of Epworth Geelong education department. Reporting to the Education Manager, this will be a hands-on role in the perioperative department, working with the NUMs, Epworth Education Teams, and Perioperative Services Managers. This role will provide supervision and education to nurses undertaking current and future post-graduate studies. You will also be required to facilitate internal education programs, provide support, and clinical supervision to graduate nurses, new staff and students across a broad range of surgical specialties.

Our Perioperative environment consists of 9 Operating Theatres including a Hybrid Theatre, Cath Lab and 2 endoscopy suites. Located all on the one level we have the Operating Theatre, Cath Lab, ICU and Day Surgery allowing excellent patient flow and best patient care. As there is an increased demand for the excellence Epworth Geelong provide to its patients and VMO’s, our operating theatres are continuing to expand. Currently our specialities include Orthopaedics, Vascular, General, Maxillofacial, ENT, Pain, Ophthalmology, Endoscopy, Plastics, Neurosurgery, Gynaecology and Urology.

You will make an impact by:

  • Delivering an exceptional patient experience within perioperative services
  • Engagement in multi-modal education methods to provide evidence-based and quality learning for staff, visiting practitioners and students
  • Encouragement and supervision of clinicians in their professional development to provide high standards of patient care
  • Encouraging and role-modelling empathy to patients, families and medical consultants

To be successful in the role you will:

  • Be appropriately registered with AHPRA (essential)
  • Minimum 3 years experience in perioperative nursing
  • Be able to demonstrate current experience in clinical education in the perioperative environment
  • Have excellent written, verbal & presentation skills
  • Have a contemporary knowledge of best practice in nursing care
  • Be highly accountable and demonstrate a strong, supportive and engaging style
  • Be passionate about patient care and achieving high quality clinical outcomes

Qualifications

  • Hold post-graduate qualifications in Perioperative Services
  • Hold post-graduate or Masters qualification in education - or working towards (desirable)
