Epicentre is an organisation created by Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in 1986. We conduct field epidemiology, training, and research activities for MSF interventions. Our activities for populations in precarious situations are led from Uganda, Niger, and France, and through the programs of MSF and others. They mainly concern infectious diseases and undernutrition.
Job Description
Epicentre recruits epidemiologists on a regular basis to conduct short-term consultancies (3 to 5 weeks average duration) and for longer term missions within MSF operations (3 to 12 months) in Epicentre's areas of expertise.
These can include:
- Rapid health assessments in emergency situations
- Epidemic outbreak investigations
- Evaluation of health programs and health needs
- Implementation and evaluation of epidemiological surveillance programs
- Prevalence surveys
- Training activities in public health and epidemiology
Qualifications
For such positions, Epicentre will consider candidates with the following qualifications:
- Medical Doctor or post-graduate degree in public health and epidemiology (MPH, MSc, or equivalent)
- At least 3 years of related work experience, such as public health experience in humanitarian contexts or developing/low income countries
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Proficiency in English or French. Additional languages also an asset.
- Proven capacity to adapt to difficult field conditions and work autonomously
- Availability on short notice
On an exceptional basis, Epicentre may recruit candidates with other qualifications, such as nurses or lab technicians, to work on specific projects. Candidates with a strong epidemiological background and field experience are encouraged to apply.
Additional Information
Due to the limited vacancies on the field, this registration does not lead to a position.
Your application will be included in a network of epidemiologists who fit to Epicentre criteria and who are interested in field positions. However it is also possible that there will be no new field vacancies for several months.
