Epicentre is an organisation created by Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in 1986. We conduct field epidemiology, training, and research activities for MSF interventions. Our activities for populations in precarious situations are led from Uganda, Niger, and France, and through the programs of MSF and others. They mainly concern infectious diseases and undernutrition.

Epicentre has been conducting research activities in Niger since 2003. The country is experiencing a situation of recurrent food insecurity and a high prevalence of infectious diseases. In this context, Epicentre, in partnership with Médecins Sans Frontières sections and other local partners, as well as local authorities and international agencies, is developing research projects that meet the health needs of the population.

The Ugandan Research Center conducts research activities on public health issues relevant to Africa, according to GCPs (Good Clinical Practices) quality standards, in close collaboration with MSF, Mbarara University of Science & Technologies, and other stakeholders in health sector. Current projects, include clinical and vaccinal trials, focus on TB, HIV, central nervous system infections, and yellow fever.

Job Description

Mission and Responsibilities

Under the responsibility of the Data Management Coordinator, the Flying Data Manager will oversee setting up data management tools and operations for clinical studies at Epicentre. The flying data manager will work on several multi-centric projects with frequent visits to the study sites.

Main activities

  • Develop data collection tools for clinical studies.
  • Program quality control checks.
  • Ensure that all DM tools at study sites are always up to date.
  • Create required document for study data management activities (SOPs, manuals, guidelines, …)
  • Work with the site DMs on day-to-day data management tasks: data collection, follow-up scheduling, quality control, and monitoring of field worker activities.
  • Automatic and manual generation, identification, and resolution of inconsistencies
  • Conduct data review/reports as required.
  • Conducts offline data validation activities.
  • Clearly document the technical details of their work to facilitate collaboration with other team members and ensure continuity of service.
  • Conducts regular field visits to study site.
  • Assists in the reconciliation and locking of study databases.
  • Participate in data analysis and the preparation of clinical study reports, publications, final reports and presentations.
  • Assists in the archiving of study databases and related documents as required.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree with strong applied data management skills in African contexts, preferably.
  • 5 years of relevant work experience as a clinical trial data manager.
  • Knowledge of research and methodology in clinical trials, good clinical practice, medical terminology, informatics, data protection and reporting formats.
  • Experience and/or knowledge in computer systems administration including a very good experience in using REDCap, CommCare, or similar clinical research data management systems.
  • Compulsory command of English and French.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in an emergency context and flexibility.
  • Effective and innovative team leadership.
  • Ability to anticipate deadlines/risk management and the strength of proposal/implementation to propose solutions.
  • Availability to travel frequently between countries where the studies is implemented.

Position based in Niger or possibly Uganda (Mbarara) with regular displacement to study sites

Remuneration according to experience and Epicentre salary grid.
