Epicentre is an organisation created by Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in 1986. We conduct field epidemiology, training, and research activities for MSF interventions. Our activities for populations in precarious situations are led from Uganda, Niger, and France, and through the programs of MSF and others. They mainly concern infectious diseases and undernutrition.

The mission you will be entrusted with:

Appointed by the Epicentre Board of Directors, of which you are the legal representative, the privileged interlocutor and to whom you report, you will be responsible for developing Epicentre's strategy, defining its organizational methods and means, and its operations. In consultation with MSF sections, you will work with the Directors of the Interventional Epidemiology and Training Department and the Research Department to define Epicentre's research agenda.

You will develop with the management team and in consultation with MSF the operational strategy of Epicentre in terms of research and training.

You will ensure the relevance of the work priorities, the quality of the projects developed, and the results delivered.

You will manage a multidisciplinary management team.

You will ensure the proper management of Epicentre's human resources and budget.

You will represent Epicentre to MSF and facilitate synergies between the two organizations while maintaining operational autonomy. In this capacity, you will contribute to the development of policies and positioning on MSF's medical and scientific orientations.

You will promote the development of scientific collaborations between Epicentre and external partners in the framework of the development of joint projects or institutional partnerships.

You will ensure that there is no discrimination of any kind within Epicentre and take appropriate action if necessary.

You will be responsible for developing recommendations and defining team security resources.      

You will represent Epicentre in the public arena, with political and health authorities, national or international, training organizations or in the media.

What you will bring:

An understanding of public health issues, epidemiology, research, and training in resource-limited countries.

Knowledge of humanitarian and global health issues and priorities, as well as political and international issues.

A sense of listening, collaboration, rigor and autonomy, qualities of analysis, diagnosis, synthesis, and responsiveness to problems.

An ability to respond to questions of practical organization of institutions in the context of their operation and development.  

A marked intention to develop new fields of work and skills such as digital health, human and social sciences, the impact of climate change on health and the decarbonization of Epicentre's activities.

An ability to handle work situations in complex and diverse work environments, including security.

Your experience and education 

Physician or PhD or equivalent in public health, epidemiology, or health-related fields

At least 10 years of professional experience in the health field (public health, epidemiology, global health) in resource-limited countries

Experience in managing multidisciplinary teams.

Fluency in French and English.

What we offer

A permanent contract based in Paris

Gross annual salary 82,7k € over 13 months 

22 days off per year; Meal vouchers with a face value of 11€ (60% paid by Epicentre), Health insurance 100% paid by Epicentre, 50% of public transport pass paid
