Job Description

Internship summary:

The Environmental Health and Safety Intern will support an enterprise level OSHA compliance and risk analysis initiative. This role is designed for a highly analytical and motivated student interested in gaining hands on experience in regulatory compliance, data analysis, and safety strategy within a multi-site industrial organization.

The intern will work closely with EHS leadership to analyze historical OSHA complaints, inspections, and citations in order to identify trends, systemic risks, and opportunities for proactive risk reduction. The internship will culminate in the development of executive level deliverables including dashboards, heat maps, root cause themes, and a strategic action plan.

Key Responsibilities

Data Collection and Analysis
• Collect and consolidate OSHA complaints, inspection records, citations, and reportable injury data across multiple facilities
• Organize and maintain a centralized data repository for historical compliance data
• Analyze trends related to inspection frequency, citation types, severity, and geographic distribution

Compliance and Risk Evaluation
• Review OSHA citations and inspection documentation to identify recurring compliance issues
• Assist in categorizing findings by risk type, severity, and potential cost impact
• Support identification of systemic root causes beyond single facility events

Field and Stakeholder Engagement
• Participate in interviews or discussions with facility managers and EHS leaders to provide context to data findings
• Assist in validating trends and assumptions through qualitative feedback

Reporting and Deliverables
• Support development of an enterprise OSHA activity dashboard
• Assist in creation of geographic heat maps highlighting high risk regions or facilities
• Contribute to financial and operational impact analysis related to OSHA activity
• Help draft a strategic action plan focused on reducing repeat violations and future exposure
• Support preparation of an executive level presentation summarizing findings and recommendations

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Ideal candidate would be a college junior or senior who is actively pursuing a bachelor’s degree in environmental health and safety, Industrial Hygiene, Safety Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
• Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with OSHA regulations or compliance concepts
• Experience with data visualization tools or dashboards
• Interest in industrial or hazardous waste operations

WORK HOURS, BENEFITS, PAY: 

  • Full-time Hybrid Schedule: (Monday to Friday)
  • Tues-Thurs in office 9-5
  • 8 Weeks (June 1- July 31st)
  • Hourly Rate: $23-24
