Job Description
As a FinOps Platform Engineer Team Lead, you'll be responsible for building automated, scalable systems that drive cloud cost visibility, optimization, and accountability across our engineering organisation. You will design and implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions, develop automation tooling, and create self-service platforms that embed cost management into our development lifecycle.
Reporting to the Cloud Platform Operations Manager, you'll establish and lead a new FinOps practice within our Cloud Excellence organisation and work closely with Product Engineering squads, SRE teams, Cloud Platform engineers, and Finance to ensure our AWS investments are optimized through automation and engineering best practices.
This is a highly technical, hands-on role that combines deep cloud financial management expertise with platform engineering. You’ll design and build scalable cloud solutions, write production-quality code, and help foster an inclusive, collaborative engineering culture where diverse perspectives and continuous learning are valued..

What you will do
Platform & Automation - Design and build automated FinOps platforms and self-service tools using IaC and CI/CD integration to improve cost visibility and control.
Cloud Cost Engineering - Develop and implement automated cost optimization, anomaly detection, and data pipelines for accurate cost attribution and forecasting.
FinOps Practice Leadership - Define the technical vision, architecture, and roadmap for the FinOps platform while embedding cost accountability into engineering workflows.
Observability & Transparency - Build dashboards and reporting frameworks to deliver real-time insight into cloud spend and cost efficiency across environments.
Collaboration - Partner with Engineering, Finance, Security, and Governance teams to align cloud cost management with technical, financial, and compliance objectives.
Qualifications
AWS Cloud Expertise - Certified AWS professional with deep hands-on experience across core services, architecture patterns, and cost optimization strategies. Strong understanding of AWS pricing models, billing, and savings mechanisms.
Platform Engineering & Automation - Proficient in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK, or Pulumi), with strong coding skills in Python and/or JavaScript/TypeScript. Experienced in CI/CD pipelines, configuration management, and API integrations.
FinOps & Cloud Financial Management - Skilled in applying FinOps principles within large-scale AWS environments, using tools like AWS Cost Explorer, CloudHealth, or Kubecost. Knowledgeable in cost allocation, unit economics, and financial modeling.
Technical Leadership - Able to design scalable architectures, influence engineering culture through automation and best practices, and communicate complex cost insights clearly. Experienced in mentoring and supporting technical teams.
Preferred - FinOps Certified Practitioner, experience with Kubernetes cost management, SRE or Platform Engineering background, and familiarity with data analytics and serverless optimization.
