Job Description

Position Purpose:

The Master Scheduler is responsible for is reviewing all active jobs and managing their schedule in the MRP system.  They will communicate with the production supervisors and provide recommendations on the allocation of resources including required work schedules needed to meet the customers’ delivery expectations.  They will also be responsible for reviewing new jobs and compare to the available resources and provide feedback to the Operations Manager and Sales team if adjustments in ship dates or work prioritization are required to achieve on-time deliveries.  The Master Scheduler will also be responsible to oversee the shipping, receiving, warehousing, and inventory management processes.  They are responsible for directly supervising the hourly shipping and receiving employees utilized to facilitate these tasks.  They will assure items are accurately received in a timely manner and oversee the movement and cycle counts of all inventory items.  

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:            

1)     Promote safety and good housekeeping while being proactive in eliminating potential safety hazards and risky behavior

2)     Supports all safety improvement activities and programs

3)     Enforce employee compliance with safety and work rules, company policies procedures, and standards via our corrective action disciplinary procedure

4)     Responsible for maintaining and adjusting the schedule for all active jobs

5)     Work with the production supervisors to assure on-time delivery and efficient use of the shop floor resources

6)     Responsible for providing the operations team with the recommended production schedule

7)     Apply all new jobs to the schedule and review them with the operations team

8)     Communicate with the sales team when committed ship dates are at risk or when there is a shift in job priorities that affects other jobs/projects     

9)     Monitor progress of active jobs by auditing the shop floor daily and provide feedback to the Operations Manger

10)  Directly manages the activities of the shipping and receiving employees

11)  Audit inventory and oversee schedule cycle counts

12)  Responsible for overseeing shipping functions

13)  Responsible for overseeing all receiving functions

14)  Assess, train, and coach each subordinate on a continual basis as needed to improve the department’s overall performance and contribution to the company’s success. 

15)  Responsible for the reporting process used for near misses and incident reports

16)  Have working knowledge of Union Contract and be capable of responding to a first step grievance after consultation with Supervisor and or Human Resources.

17)  Communicate all discrepancies to the proper management personnel.

18)  Complete hourly team member evaluations

Qualifications

Education and Training, or Experience equivalent:

  • Required Bachelor’s degree or related work experience
  • Minimum of 2 years supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment or in a logistics and warehousing environment
  • Minimum of 5 years of production planning and scheduling

Skill and Abilities:

1)     Experience with ERP systems used for production planning

2)     Knowledge of inventory management and controls

3)     Knowledge of shipping and receiving process

4)     Strong leadership and supervisory skills

5)     Knowable in industrial safety standards

6)     Candidate must have the ability to manage multiple projects of varying degrees of difficulty at one time.

7)     Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office products

8)     Experience in continuous improvement

9)     Strong oral / written communication skills for instructions, memos, etc.

10)  Must have strong listening skills and be able to make precise decisions quickly

11)  Must have good knowledge of OSHA safety regulations  

12)  Must also be a good communicator with effective employee relations skills 

13)  Must be computer literate
