Job Description

Position Purpose:

Responsible for managing the shops manpower and equipment resources in a manner that achieves maximum productivity while consistently maintaining a high level of quality, safety, positive employee relations.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:           

  • Leads with a safety-first culture and champions all safety and housekeeping improvement activities/ programs while being proactive in eliminating potential safety hazards and unsafe behavior.
  • Ensures near miss and incidents reports and investigations happen in a timely manner.
  • Consistently enforce employee compliance with safety and work rules, company policies, procedures, and standards via our corrective action disciplinary procedure. .
  • Plan, assign, and supervise manpower and equipment operations to insure that production results consistently meet customer’s quality and delivery requirements in the most cost-efficient manner possible.
  • Follow priority dispatch report and shop schedule.
  • Maintain open communications with subordinates and other staff and management members in regards to operational issues related to manpower, materials, equipment, scheduling issues, priorities, etc.
  • Assist in analyzing departmental labor cost and efficiency reports and in determining overtime needs for meeting production requirements.
  • Assist in developing and implementing new production methods and processes and recommending changes for improving products and/or lowering costs. .
  • Get efficiency of assembly department above 85% for actual vs. estimate hours
  • Monitor the proper care and condition of all tools, equipment, facilities, and other physical assets in department and determine need for replacement or repair.
  • Personnel management
  • Assess, train, and coach each subordinate on a continual basis as needed to improve department’s overall performance and contribution to the company’s success.
  • Perform evaluations of subordinates in a timely manner each year.
  • Assist in the selection process when recruiting “new-hires” for department
  • Promote safety and good housekeeping while being proactive in eliminating potential safety hazards and risky behavior.
  • Execute various other general responsibilities common to most supervisory positions.
  • Perform any and all other assignments as requested by immediate supervisor.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent. Technical school training a plus
  • 5-10 years in a machining, fabricating and mechanical environment,
  • 2-3 years supervisory experience

 Skills and Abilities:

  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to read and work from blueprints’
  • Hands on mechanical experience with the ability to demonstrate skills and tasks to subordinates
  • Ability to train and monitor subordinate employees
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations.
  • Good communication and employee and e skills’
  • Basic computer skills.
