Job Description

Position Purpose:

The EHS manager is responsible for the support and improvement of the company’s EHS programs and initiatives, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, corporate safety policies and industry standards.  The EHS manager will be responsible for supporting all our Lansing MI and Elizabethtown KY manufacturing sites, along with field service work at customer locations. 

This position requires a self-motivated EHS professional, that achieves results by gaining support in EHS programs and processes. The EHS manager will guide/coach our manufacturing team members and provide the necessary leadership to management functions. 

This is a highly visible position, requiring significant interaction with all levels of the organization, as well as with the Corporate EHS and customers (as required).   The position will functionally report to the Corporate EHS Manager, with a dotted line relationship to the Divisional President.  

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:       

  • Manage all aspects of EHS to ensure we are providing the safest work environment for all our team members
  • Support facility safety teams at each site to promote continuous improvement
  • Engage and collaborate with safety teams to develop safety improvement plans and support them to produce desired safety results and meet established targets
  • Conduct safety audits at facility (and customer sites as needed) to ensure safety compliance, as well as determining and implementing any necessary corrective action in safety programs
  • Promote the organization’s safety objectives
  • Reinforce Health and Safety manual policies
  • Lead team member training programs
  • Develop Risk Assessments / Job Safety Analysis
  • Review and participate in incident investigations, using team-based root cause problem solving, counter measures and effectiveness verification
  • Manage environmental aspects to maintain compliant sites
  • Complete and submit all regulatory reports as they relate to Environmental, Health and Safety.
  • Keep current with everchanging standards and regulations

Qualifications

Essential skills and experiences you must bring to the table:

Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health or suitably related field re

5-7 years EHS experience in a heavy manufacturing environment

Preferred:

  • Industrial Certification, such as PE, CSP, ASP, CIH.
  • ISO experience
  • Lean Manufacturing, Project Management or experience with similar processes.
  • EMT/ First Responder Certification

Skills:

  • A working background with team environments (Self Directed Work teams, problem solving teams or work cells) or equivalent team training
  • Demonstrated practical experience in safety process improvement
  • Knowledgeable with local, State and federal regulatory requirements
  • Ability to interpret and apply OSHA regulations on a practical basis and make recommendations to management, including decision on recordable injuries and OSHA reporting
  • Knowledge of behavioral based safety programs and procedures
  • Ability to facilitate job safety analysis of equipment, areas, and work processes
  • Ability to train team members on hazard identification, audit procedures and incident investigation
  • Ability to develop leading and lagging indicators to facilitate discussion and drive safety improvement.
  • Strong in written and verbal communication, that must influence multiple levels within the organization
  • Proficiency in partnering with operational groups to develop and achieve meaningful safety goals
  • IT competence that is required to prepare monthly/quarterly and annual internal/external reports

 Travel:

  • ~30% of the time

Working Conditions:

  • Office environment, shop environment and customer sites.
